As some of you know, I'm mostly a Colt 1911 and S&W revolver lover, but after getting a Delta Elite and a Razorback, I've come to really love 10mm and I just had to have a Glock 29 too! Tonight I got a chance to make some images of my new (first) Glock.... and I gotta say that I reeaaally like this pistol! It's become quite a favorite of mine. Of course 10mm is now my favorite caliber right along with .45 acp! Ten is becoming more popular these days and for very good reason - it rocks! I don't love my 1911's any less, but I sure do welcome this gun to my defense rotation! It's awesome. Eleven rounds of TEN on tap in a reliable, very accurate launcher is a nice thing.

Yeah, I'd like to get 10mm, but I still have to get my first handgun. :uhoh: :D

I used to own a few 10mm's now the G20 is the only one left. I think Glock makes the best 10mm available. Congrats!!

Glad to have you on the darkside. Now, pay your dues and sacrifice a 1911 on the Altar of despair!

Good looking pistol just get used to that 3.5lb disconect, that is pretty light trigger pull, especially for carry purposes. After shooting my dads with the stock trigger then going to the 3.5 it was nicer, but kinda light for me. But i am sure that you will have the discipline and control to use that light of trigger, with no problems.

Gosh, you can even make Glocks look great! :D

The only mods I've made to my 29 are the Pearce grip extender, which makes a big difference in how the 29 handles, and swapping the serrated "target" trigger for a smooth trigger (don't need those ATF points after it's imported, right?). You will enjoy the 29 - it is a surprisingly pleasant pistol to shoot.

possum... with the 3.5# disconnect the trigger pull comes down to around 5.25# and I'm used to having 3.75 to 4#, so the trigger feels plenty heavy to me. No problem being safe with that.

JNewell... thanks for the compliment. The smooth faced trigger sounds very appealing... the weirdest thing for me with this gun is the edgy feeling trigger face, especially with the weird safety doohickey... wish they would do away with that!

If I were to buy a Glock, it would be the G29.

Man, DHart, why did you have to go and do the whole picture thing with the G29. Every darn time you do stuff like that, I get a bad itch. I have purchased two different guns as a result of looking at the pics that you post. Now, I really want the G29. I've been on the fence, but YOU pushed me over with your "photopulsive" imagery. I'll be sure to tell my wife it's your fault when she finds out I have a new gun.

Oh, man - now that pic was enough to get a 1911-fan like me to consider buying a Glock - pretty.

DHart~

As always, your photography is leading-edge.

May I ask what carry ammo you have chosen? I purchased a NIB G29 just today and selected 175-gr Silvertips before leaving the store. Winchester's online ballistic data claims some pretty good velocity from a 5.5" barrel (1290 fps). I wonder what they actually do from a 3.78" barrel.

Georgia Arms Shear Power Plus has their 155-gr chrono'd from real guns @ 1375-fps but no idea how long a barrel. Their 180-gr claims 1150-fps, again with no mention of barrel length.

I have shot my good friends G29 on several range outings and it is amazing how easy it is to shoot for the power it projects. Accurate as heck and easy follow-up hits.

Thanks for your photos.

Ric, Andy, Dave... thanks for the appreciating the pics! I know what it's like to see cool pics of a gun and feel compelled to go buy one for yourself! Images can be powerful persuaders for sure.... hope I'm not ticking your ladies off too much with the persuasion! ;)

Dave... Congrats on your new G29.... it's an awesome gun. You should consider the KKM barrel for that puppy and the Pearce grip extenders... these mods make ALL the difference with this gun!

I am a strong believer in heavy-for-caliber bullet selection for the penetration benefit they offer. My top choices in 10mm are:

Winchester 175 gr. Silvertip at around 1200 to 1250 fps.

Remington 180 gr. Golden Saber at around 1200 to 1250 fps.

Hornady 200 gr. XTP at around 1180 to 1200 fps

These loads have plenty of serious defensive power without being "peaky-hot" like the DT loads tend to be. They're easy to control and not hard on your gun. No issues with pressure either. Personally, I think they're the best choice for defense in 10mm. I roll my own and feel no qualms using my own loaded ammo for defense purposes.

Great looking photos DHart!

So, G29 owners - is the 29 just a complete beast to shoot recoil-wise?

Unless you're shooting +P level hot-hot DT loads, the 10mm 29 is very comfortable and easy to shoot... surprisingly so. No big deal at all. Try it.. you'll LIKE it!

My 5-shot S&W 442 with 158-gr LSWC ammo kicks harder than a G29 with personal protection ammo.

My all-steel S&W 4" Model 686 .357 Magnum revolver with Remington R357M1 125-gr (1450-fps) has about the same recoil, but the revolvers grip angle causes more muzzle flip than the lighter G29 with 180-gr Gold Dot loads.

It's hard to explain, but it is surprising how easy it is to control 10mm power in such a small sidearm.

It's such an incredible experience to shoot a G29 with serious ammo that I recanted my vow to never own a Glock. In the last week I have acquired my very first polymer-framed pistols. A 4" XD-45 and a Glock 29. Revolvers hold a definite place in my stable, but these two pistols (and my 1911s) are really awesome!

I am now converted. But I still love and apprecite my wheelguns.

Dave... your recent experience going to your first Glock (and a 29 at that) is exactly the same as my own. I toyed with the idea of buying a GLock for many years, but only just recently decided to take the plunge.. and the 29 is what did it for me. Couldn't be happier with it! (Still, my Colt 1911's and S&W revos hold huge appeal to me, of course! Nothing will replace them... only supplement them.)

If you like the 10mm in the G29 (great gun) try it in the G20 where it really shines.

I was never really a big fan of Glocks but I decided that I wanted a 10mm to use as my daily concealed carry weapon so I bought a Glock 29. I still haven't changed my opinion on Glock and more than likely will not buy another model Glock but I absolutely love the G29 and do in fact use it as my daily carry gun.

At some risk I will reveal that my 29 has a safety plug and a clip draw.

Most of the time out in the woods it rides in a belly bag of several pockets that has a total survival pack including toilet paper, compass, survival blanket, Bic lighter, flashlight, multi-tool with knife, fork and spoon, and a bunch of other stuff. It is small, weighs in at about 4 pounds including the 29. Very handy to sling over the shoulder or around the belt line and can be worn all day if necessary. I call it my Booney Bag. Most of the time its in the truck with me.

The Clip draw is for quick runs up on the ranch or Boonies where a little more than snake shot would be required. It is a very handy device for me. To each his own though.

I don't pack the 29 every day like I once did. Too old. Too tired. Besides I do have a relationship with a P-32 and a P-11 KelTec.

Still the 29 will be with me till the end. It pleases me to read so many post of those who have adopted this fine piece for their very own. The grip extensions are a nice addition too. Just like those great pictures shown here.

Welcome to the world of Glock 10MM's. I love the G20 for bush carry. Here's mine with the Storm Lake stainless barrel and a 6" Storm Lake hunting barrel.

Standard carry package. G20 with the 4.6" barrel (this picture has the 6" barrel in the gun but the 4.6" is my standard carry barrel), 1 each 15 round mag, 2 each 17 round mags (+2 extenders), Bianchi accumold mag holder and a Don Hume belt holster.

Look at the bright side, you will have more time taking pics and shooting the GLOCK instead of fixing/tweaking/reliabilize it unlike some of your other pistols :neener:

gudel... I love the Glock 29, but a big part of my pleasure with my 1911's IS the tweaking, modifying, customizing.... that's great fun! Bottom line... it's all good! ;)
