I picked up some spent brass at the range today, and I am puzzled. These all seem to be the same size, but they all have different numbers. I put the 30/30 there just for size comparison. What caliber is this brass, and what do the numbers mean? Thanks for educating me.

looks like 30-06 to me. best way to be sure is to get a reloading manual with brass measurements and measure with calipers. Don't go exactly by this but it will give you a good idea.

Here is a page that identifies headstamps:

The two digit numbers numbers are usually the year that lot of ammo was produced.

PS: Measuring with my lousy ruler, the cartridge brass appears to be 2.5 inches in length, and just a hair less than .5 inch in diameter. The bullet would be some sort of 30 caliber diameter.

I found this very helpful photo chart, and yes, my brass appears to be 30/30:

I found this image on www.headsbunker.com, which is a great website/blog.

Had to look up the KA, it's Korean.

SL is St. Louis
TW is Twin Cities

Be careful that it's not corrosive, the cutoff date is about '52 for American stuff.
