Rust remover took the black off my sight

I bought a used 1911 that had some rust on the slide and around the rear Novak sight. I bought some Bullfrog to take off the rust, which it did really well. However, it took all the black off the sight as well. Are Novak sights painted or blued? I am assuming painted. Can I take it off to repaint it black? Or does it need to be blued? What would work best? Thanks.

Sounds like paint. Bullfrog, though it works on rust, has not removed blueing (or even browning) on any of the many guns I've used it on.
I'd be tempted to get a B/C Super Black Touch-up Pen. It's easy, quick, and you don't have to remove the sight. About 6 bucks at a shop, and a one-minute job. I've used it to partially refinish a scraped-up 10/22 receiver. With a little rubbing using a dry rag, it looks like new. Took less than 5 minutes start to finish, and if I want to, I can do it again.
