I've the XD9 tactical (5") and 9mm 24/7 Pro. I like the 24/7 Pro trigger a bit better, but the XD sights are way better for my old eyballs. The longer sight radius of the 5" XD9 Tactical sure don't hurt either.

About 500 rounds thru each, both 100% reliable but I've only shot cheap CCI Aluminun Blazer and steel cased Monarch along with a few 147 gr JHP.

I think both are outstanding guns for the money and I'd take either over my Glock 17 which pretty much sits in the safe these days. YMMV.

I love my XD. But the 24/7s are really nice. It depends on what I wanted it for to be honest with you if I had to make this choice.

If it was my only pistol or a pistol to serve any duty, then I'd go with the XD. If it was strictly a carry pistol, then I'd go with the 24/7 simply because I would feel more comfortable with the thumb safety.

XD is head and shoulders above the Taurus...reason, reliability.
Taurus has a history of poor to less-than-average reliability issues with their auto line.

Could you cite something about that from recent years, or are you talking about somewhere near 20 years ago? I've never heard of anyone having a FTF problem even with a decade-old PT92, and their new stuff is pretty nicely engineered. Informative posts are better than baseless "internet opinions".

The 24/7 won NRA's Gun of the Year last year.

Seriously, the XD has already gotten beyond Glock territory as far as being jingoistic, I think. Yeah, it might be good, but it's like "OH GET AN XD!! TEH BEST! R0xx0rS!"... "Have you ever fired one?" "No, but they're the BEST!" :D

As always, I say handle both, see what fits your hand.

Another one living in the 80's:rolleyes:

Then again, opinions vary. I had a PT100 and a 24/7 and both shot just fine. If I had to choose, I would say the 24/7 trigger is a bit better than the XD's is. But, you can get the XD trigger worked on to make it better, I don't believe anyone is offering that for the Taurus pistols yet.

I like my son's XD-9 except for the trigger. I wouldn't mind having the XD-45 but it might suffer the same fate as the 24/7 I had. I didn't feel the need for a DAO .45 since my 1911 is the holy grail in .45. Why have anything else;)

I guess I could go back to the ole saying though, "variety is the spice of life".

I did this comparison for myself and here's what I decided:

- Taurus does have certain models that have historically had quality problems. However the 2nd and 3rd generation Millenium and Millenium Pro pistols should be just fine, and the 24/7 owners I've spoken to are perfectly content with them. It is worth nothing that most 24/7 owners I've met are competent handlers/shooters but not "gun nuts", so their decision wasn't really influenced by a gun rag or a forum like this one. Also, the 24/7 tends to be their only handgun in many cases.

I did encounter one case where a 24/7 had to go back to the factory once but I don't recall the exact problem, something very minor.

- XD quality is as good/bad as anything. 997 out of 1000 of them will run like a top out of the box. A few have problems and have to go back for repair.

-Neither gun has good support from the manufacturer imho. There's no armorers for either of them in my locale. To be fair I understand the ones that go to the factory in either case tend to get fixed, but that's not the same as having an armorer within an hour's driving distance like Sig and Glock owners can enjoy. XD owners can't buy factory parts any more either so that forces you to get two of your CCW model just to be safe.

- Holster support seems to be marginally better for the XD series.

- They both "feel" really good but that's subjective from person to person, every gun is bound to fit some people really well, and for appearance I think the Taurus looks better. That's not important to me at all, but to some people it is.

-Triggers are different. I can't really say one was better than the other, but they are different.

-Manual of arms are different. The 24/7 has an external safety, the XD does not. Pick your poison, I personally am of the thought I don't need to be saved from myself.

-Taurus has the internal lock, XD does not, FWIW

All that said, I went with the XD platform and own 4 XDs and have owned 2 others, which were only sold to finance more XDs. I do think it's the overall better gun; I trust mine.

The Taurus design is neat though, and if you can't spring for the XD or just really want a feature the 24/7 has, I wouldn't blame anyone for going that way, to each his own and all that.

So does the M16...or at least it did in the 60's.
They're all junk because of early teething problems.

I'd skip the XD. Fired the XD9 and didn't like it at all. I'd take the FNP-9 (Browning Pro-9) over it every day of the week.
I'd take the Taurus as well. Just didn't like the way the XD handled. I'm sure they're nice and reliable, just not for me.

I have an XD9 and love it. Now I am looking to buy the 24/7 Pro .45ACP. I also have the Taurus PT945 .45ACP, and it has been completly reliable. I also own Colt 1911 and Rugers. But I don't buy into the Taurus is not reliable opinions. I guess just different experience, but I trust my Taurus as much as my other pistols. I have feed the PT945 about 1800 rounds of about every type ball and HP I could get....no problems.

Sorry, you said which one. My answer is the one that fits best. Make sure it is the new Taurus Pro. XD also great choice.
