Where can I get me some mutton tallow? I would like to make a batch of lube for dry wads. There don't seem to be any muttons running around the woods here in Alabama.:p

Go to the store and buy a piece of lamb, probably some ribs, not the Frenched ones, at 12 bucks a pound, mebbe a piece of shoulder, at 2 to 3 bucks. Bake it. You will wind up with near or more than a half pound of tallow, AND some excellent eating at the same time.

If you consider you had a meal and the fat is waste, normally, way cheaper than the price of their stuff, I think about 8 bucks a half pound tub. What they melted out and had to pay to dispose of, someone collects and sells to you for 16 bucks a pound.

I'd say that is the "sucker born every minute" thing that Barnum mentioned 100 years ago.

I'll melt out my own, thank you.

Cheers,

George

It's $3.50 for almost a full lb. of tallow. Not worth getting your own unless you're already eating lamb.

Unfortunately, when I get to the shopping cart, I find a shipping charge of 5.95 for that 12 to 16 ounce tub.

Nah, I think I'll keep rendering my own. I DO eat lamb, so no prob.

Cheers,

George

To each his own.;)

Some of us don't eat lamb, but do order from DGW.

I'd love to eat lamb OR order from DGW. As is, I can't afford either! :o
