Pet Cat Shoots Boy
Police Say Air Rifle Accident Wounds Teenager

Posted: 9:24 a.m. EDT April 19, 2003

CANTON, Ohio -- A pet cat jumped on an air rifle that then fired and wounded a teenage boy, the boy's mother said.
Reports filed by Stark County sheriff's deputies said the boy, Josiah V. Boughman, 15, was grazed on his right side just below his ribs with an air rifle's pellet.

The shooting occurred at about 11 p.m. Monday outside his home in nearby Tuscarawas County.

Sheriff's deputies met his mother, Mary A. Boughman, outside his hospital room. She told them her son had been at a barn about 50 yards from his family's house, shooting at rats.

Returning to the house, he put the air rifle on a picnic table, neglecting the weapon's safety, reports said.

The boy's mother told deputies a cat, which is one of the family's household pets, jumped on the table and touched the gun.

Staff at the hospital where the boy was treated told deputies boy's wound is not life threatening.

:what: BAN CATS!

A graze from a bb gun deserves a trip to the hospital? What a nation of wimps we are becoming.

Actually this is what happened. The cat is a member of Feline Union, Local 9L, and was on his vacation.
The boy was actually a scab doing work that the cat union was contracted to do.
So in order to keep competition down the Local 9L boss hired a hit cat to take out the non union worker. :uhoh: Seeing the pellet gun laying there just made the hit cats job easier.

The moral of the story; Leave the rats to the cats! :neener:

That is what I was thinking. Geez, I hope this kid never falls off of his bike or out of a tree that he was climbing. His mom will have the trauma helicopter pulled from an auto accident.

Geez, suck it up. You were stupid and pain just happens to be a wonderful teacher. Put some alcohol on that scrape, maybe a bandage and take the kids BB gun away until he proves he can use it safely. The only thing really hurt is probably the kids pride.

Oh yeah when you get your BB gun privledges back, find that cat and shoot it. Turnabout is fair play.

I knowit! I ride my bike and sometimes get scraped up, you should see my fellow students flip out over a little blood. It's really quite laughable, but pathetic at the same time. People wanted to call an ambulance when I scraped my elbow, good thing I stopped them:rolleyes:

Now I'm careful to clean up before going to class:neener:

They had full coverage of this story on the news today. The kids lucky he didn't get hurt worse. It was another simple case of not following the 4 rules.
The gun looked like a daisy Model 880, and he was shooting pointed pellets. Apparently the genius loaded it and pumped it up all the way then set it on a table without so much as pulling the bolt open, and proceeded to stand in front of it (don't know how close)
The cat jumped up on the table and put a foot through the trigger, and the kid got popped in the side. It went clear through leaving 2 small holes 2 or three inches apart right at the bottom of his ribcage on his right side. Might have lodged under the skin in the front as they said he had to have the pellet removed, but there were definitely two holes, they showed a picture of it.

Just another example that cats are evil and should be erradicated :neener:
I mean, that the 4 rules apply no matter if its "just a bb gun" or a real firearm.

is this one of those "victimless crimes?"i could see it now- a full line up of various barnyard animals.."it did it!!..it did it!!" the victim shouts.. as the cat is fingered behind the glass.

Guns don't kill people... cats do :)

Never trusted those cats, dogs are our best friends and I think they have been trying to warn us all along. I think we should ally with the cat's other natural enemy, the mouse. Ah-HA! then "mouse gun" will take on a whole new meaning for our feline "friends". Locked and Loaded, ready to go at it pussy cat!:D

Boy gets shot in the back when cat pulls trigger

Saturday, April 19, 2003

TUSCARAWAS TWP. — A teenage boy was shot in the back with his own pellet gun — by his cat.

Josiah V. Boughman, 15, of Carmont Avenue SW was admitted to Doctors Hospital, but a hospital spokesman would not release his condition Friday, citing new hospital regulations.

Reports filed by Stark County sheriff’s deputies said the boy was shot with a Powerline Air Rifle with a 1.77 mm pellet shot. The pellet from the gun entered his right side from the back and exited his front, “just grazing his right side down to his rib cage.”

The shooting occurred about 11 p.m. Monday outside his home.

Doctors Hospital called deputies to report the shooting. Deputies met his mother, Mary A. Boughman, outside his hospital room. She told them her son was at a barn, about 55 yards from the house, shooting at rats.

When he went to go back up to the house, he laid the gun on a picnic table, neglecting to switch on the weapon’s safety feature, the deputies’ reports said.

The boy’s mother told deputies the cat, which is one of the family’s household pets, jumped up onto the picnic table and played with the gun, deputies’ reports said.

“Apparently the cat somehow pulled the trigger on the weapon, shooting (the boy) in the right side,” the reports said.

The woman told deputies that her other children, who are the boy’s teenage brother and sister, heard him yell and ran to him. They brought him to their mother, and the family rushed him to the hospital.

Deputies’ reports said hospital employees told them the boy’s injuries were not life-threatening, and they considered the shooting accidental.

The boy’s mother could not be reached for comment Friday.

no wonder they had to take him to the hospital... 1.77mm pellet? whatta air-gun!

hmmm, lets see, the cat knew his target, knew the gun was loaded (as all guns are), didnt put paw in trigger guard until ready to pull trigger (jump on gun), and he only jumped when the target was in the sights....cant see the cat violating any of the 4 rules.... whats the big hubbub about?

cats....more dignity than dogs. how often do you see a cat doing some stupid trick for a treat?

My mother has a six toed cat that begs for food at the table like a dog, not an ounce of pride.

A trip to the hospital for that? Just put some iodine on it and cover it with a bandaid.

I hope my cute little, fuzzy little imaginary kitty doesn't find out about this!

April 21, 2003, 08:34 PM
Another example of how cats are obviously smarter than dogs. Dogs come when you call them because they are stupid and have no dignity. If you hooked a bunch of cats up to a sled like sled dogs and told them to "Mush!" or whatever, they'd look back at you as if to say, "Yeah, right."

Further research will probably show that the kid abused the cat, so the cat shot him on purpose :D

April 21, 2003, 08:35 PM
Oh, come on! You know the kid was shooting at the cat before this happened!;)

They had full coverage of this story on the news today.

:what: :what: :what:

That is pathetic in the extreme. A kid gets hit with a BB and the media thinks this is a newsworthy event?

What next, little Mary scrapes her knee on the sidewalk and there will be 4 satellite trucks on scene to bring this terrible and heart wrenching story live to a worldwide audience?

***?!? :barf:

April 21, 2003, 08:58 PM
Well, yes its pathetic especially when its a news station out of columbus. But then it is entertaining to see people that dumb from afar, and know that darwin made an attempt on their life today  The opening line was "FELINE FELONY?!"
Love how the police, or maybe just the reporter lists it as a 1.7mm pellet. Its a .177 caliber pellet, or 4.5mm . Those powerline guns are quite a bit more powerful than most people think. The kid is really lucky it didn't hit him somewhere else.
As it is, there was no reason to go to the hospital, thus admitting to the entire world that you did something that damn stupid. All he had was a nice clean hole right through his side under the skin. No dressing on it as he just lifted his shirt for the camera with a big moronic grin to show the little holes. He's a survivor
Each story on this is a little different. Pretty soon it will come out that the powerline rifle was illegal as it was fixed up with a suppressor, pistol grip, bipod, laser sight, and was loaded with a depleted uranium pellet, and that the cat was sportin a ghillie suit. :neener:

April 21, 2003, 09:17 PM
the cat said it was a accidental discharge which is a problem with that model. 187

April 21, 2003, 10:24 PM
Now I understand why my cat looks at my .45 funny..... Guess I should invest in some kitty treats for "protection".

April 22, 2003, 06:28 AM
In a follow-up to the story by "Paul Harbe" under intense questioning the cat was unable (unwilling ?) to explain why he (the cat) was in the process of reloading the BB rifle before being subdued by a passerby stray dog. The Justice department has been asked to investigate this "hate crime" and determine if this incident is just a RANDOM act.:scrutiny:

:scrutiny: Cat, stepped in the triggergaurd. Ok, yeah.. right. Sure.

Methinks the kid did something else completely stupid, and came up with the cat story, and now that it's news, he dosen't dare tell the truth...

It just dosen't pass the smell test. I also note that there's no other witnesses untill he yelled out in pain.

Were it my kid, he'd know not to make up the stupid cat story, since leaving a pumped, loaded, and cocked airgun on a table and walking away from it would leave him in as much trouble as something equally as stupid like trying to spin the rifle like a cowboy with a revolver, or shoot with the rifle behind his back.

The real sad thing here is that when a kid actually gets away with telling a whopper like this, it's a bad lesson. I bet the gears are starting to turn up in his head, and he's wondering things like: If people are all really that gullible, is he really that clever, is telling big lies as easy as little ones, and what else can he get away with? etc. etc.

April 22, 2003, 04:22 PM
Well, even if the cat didn't do it I bet he was thinking about it. Thinkingabout it is a crime too you know.

April 22, 2003, 04:34 PM
Sure, blame the cat for a moronic attempted suicide in despair for having to live in Ohio. . . .

April 22, 2003, 05:53 PM
I bet it was a catnip deal that went bad. Happens all the time, Drugs, Guns, Bloodshed....its a no brainer.:D And HEY! I live in Ohio, you ought to see the place I moved from:) But thanks for the grammar lesson, being a dumb Ohio person I need all the help I can get. At least I'm not sitting in a sturdy LEAKY rowboat out THERE with a rundown Die Hard battery hooked-up to my 100mhz laptop computer while my oars slowly float away into the distance way out THERE! :D

Being a product of the Ohio educational system, I can also butcher french grammar mercy bowcoop. For the benefit of those living in the other 50 states I shall translate; it means "Bite Me"

Is this the culprit?

RE: A hospital trip and the extent of the coverage.

Not much of a surprise here. Ohio is in the middle of a CCW fight. Anything to demonize an "evil gun" of any sort is going to play into the anti's hand. Any negative gun-centric topic is going to draw heavy coverage for the next year or so, and be blown all out of proportion.

Also, on the eve of mother's day and another million mom march, anyone care to take bets his mother will be one of the marchers?
