On page 4, the 1 May issue of Gun Week, interested readers will find 2 pieces, a short item by Dave Kopel, entitled Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death, worth reading, and a longer piece, very much worth reading, by Gene Crumb, whose name might be familiar to many entitled Police Administration and The Most Worthless Federal Firearms Law. The Crumb piece deals mostly with the stupidity of capacity limits placed on "ammunition feeding devices" otherwise known as detachable magazines, though the article briefly visits the ban on so-called "assault weapons", which he takes, as does the writer, an extremely dim view of.

Both the magazine capacity limits and the assault weapons ban are scheduled to "sun set" in September 2004. The sun must set, notwithstanding recent comment, ill-advised comment, from The White House, so get on to your "elected things" in both The House as well as The Senate, soliciting their "inaction" re renewal or reauthorization, thereby allowing the poorest examples of legislation to quietly die. They never should have been passed in the first place, but that is history. We can see that they die, and every possible effort to achieve this desirable ending should be made.
