convert to higher round count?

Just received some 20's and physically they are about only a half inch or so longer than the 10. What, if anything, can be done (innards?) to increase round count reliably???

TIA

I've personally never heard of anything to increase the cap. on a 10 rd mag, but if you figure it out...hehe...let me know

I know this isn't very constructive advice toward the purpose of your question, but I think you'd save yourself a whole mess of hassle and energy and just buy a few more twenties and thirties.

If it is a Bushmaster 10 rnder you can't do anything with it. It is designed to ruin the mag if you try to take it apart.

A 10-rounder that was modified from a 20-rounder could perhaps be opened back up and converted back. If there is one or more parts simply blocking the follower from going more than half way down, removing them should do the trick. If 20-rounder parts were removed and replaced with different parts that restrict the capacity to 10 rounds, now you have to find some 20-round magazine parts. In many cases it may be easier or even less costly just to buy some 20-round magazines.

Along the same lines, where can I get a 10-round mag that look exactly like the USGI 20-rounders (straight body style)? :D

funny that you mention the bushmaster 10 rnders. My friend has a bussy and he got a few factory tens with it. We were trying to figure out how to dissasemble them to clem em, but no luck. theres two plasic buttons on either side of the mag but they woundnt budge easily. any suggestions?

I can only tell you how to revert a 10 rd mag that uses the body of a 20 rounder straight body.

Very simple. Remove the floor plate. This may require drilling out a rivet. Once that is done, remove the U shaped piece of metal that stops the follower. Reassemble. The spring can still be used, it is a 20 rd spring.

I did this to the 2 10rd mags I got with my Colt in '95. I still use them to this day.

Disclaimer: check your local laws before modifying a magazine in this manner.

Yes, lol, stop trying to take them apart, you'll just end up with two worthless mags. If you really need the extra firepower either buy some 20's (and 30's) or move. (depeding on where you live ;))

There is absolutely no way to take apart the bushmast 10 rounders without destroying the mag. I took one apart to build a new mag for a fab-10. That button on was solid one piece. I took a grinder and ground down the button on both sides and it came apart. there's no way to modify the internals and replace them to get a higher cap mag.

Thanks, I'll have to look into this when I get home today.
Weren't the Vietnam-era USGI mgs aluminum?

Bushmaster has a straight 10-rounder for their bullpup .223, but they look a little odd to me.
