EDC folders are a Benchmade 806D2, Benchmade 975SBT and sometimes a Benchmade RUKUS. I have a thing for BM's to say the least. For a defensive fixed blade I use a Polkowski Kasper Bulldog. Other favorites though not carried all that much are a Vorpal Ranger from Bobby Branton, a custom Koi Bowie from Burchtree Blades, Randall model 14, and several custom pieces from JSP Bladerigger. I also collect older Benchmade\Pacific Cutlery Balisongs. As for new stuff, there isn't too much else out there that really strikes my interest right now.

Right now, my favorite knife, regardless the price or practicality, is the Randall Bowie, E. Model 12 "The Smithsonian Bowie" (http://www.randallknives.com/bowie.asp):

http://www.randallknives.com/images/photos/bowie-big.jpg

It looks most like a Bowie to me(even though I don't know much about them, just read the article on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowie_knife)), sans the guard, which should look like an "S", as in wiki's picture:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/24/Bowie_knife_1.jpg

Randall's this Bowie model is not just long, but also wide and thick(and heavy, too), and to my eyes it is proportionally correct and pleasing to be called a Bowie. Too bad I think they want some $500+ for a copy, and you need wait for like a couple of years to get one. Oh, well, if it were affordable or practical, it ain't a dream knife no more...

My favorite? - Has to be a pocketknife with different uses. Right now I have a Swiss Army Knife I carry all the time.

I just ordered one of these babies from Camillus, should be here next week :D:

http://www.camillusknives.com/camillus/cam-knives/1760.jpg

Figger'd 'bout time I bought something more American. Besides - we need to encourage this sort of knife production in the US anyhow. I used to have an old Remington like this only it had two blades, a saw, can opener and a screwdriver/bottle-opener. Stopped making that model....

Anyhow, I also have a Buck Model 120 Sheath knife that they stopped making too (now they only make the model 119). Dad gave it to me and he's had it since before I was an itch in his pants. Thats my favorite sheath knife.

Buck Ranger.
I've had the 3'' Buck folder since college and have used it to skin and cut up almost all the deer I've killed. Also used it to butcher small game.

It was carried routinely in my pocket for years. I only replaced it with something lighter after I started hauling more stuff around in my pockets.

There are some fine knives in this thread.

Schuey2002's Busse Combat Heavy Heart is my current fav.

Mad Dog 10" Sitka with Glowing Temperline is my new favorite all around knife. It replaced my Randal #14 Attack which I sold to partially finance it and is a better knife overall .

My Mad Dog Rezine Bowie GTL is a 9" sticking knife which slaughters livestock better than anything ! It replaces my Randal Bear Bowie I used for the task for 10 years.

My Mad Dog 7" Voodoo Cat is a nasty double edge fighting knife that is on my tactical harness right behind my pistol holster. It replaced my Randal #1 I carried thru Nam-twice!

I have a Mad Dog baby Rhino Skinner 4"x3/16" on order for skinning what I kill.I been using a Wyoming skinner for 25 years .

I also have a Mad Dog DSU on order, which is a fully serrated 7.5" Field knife.

I carry a Polkowski Kasper ,which is 4.75"x3/16" and thin and petite in it's kydex clip on.

For in the pocket folders clip ons it's the Cuda Max 7" Gibbs special , which is the biggest folder I can clip inside pocket, is **** legal is very light and very fast of D-2!

I must confess I like my 1974 Puma Game Warden 4" folder- it rocks!

EDC knife that replaced the Benchmade Mini Stryker & Emerson CQC-7 rotation is a Benchmade 551 Griptillian. It's lightweight, very comfortable to grip, and a great all around size. Over Christmas I was re-united with my Benchmade 813 mini TSEK which sees some carry when I wanna keep blade length but lose overall width. If I don't want a pocket clip showing I carry my Benchmite auto. I'm quite happy that I was able to get the last two before they were discontinued. I really like the cutout pattern and levitator lock system on the Benchmite so for an overall cool factor its my current favorite.

My CRKT Van Hoy folder is my favorite right now. It's design lets me carry it around without worrying much about someone grabbing it and using it against me. I'd get at least a couple of more seconds for counterstrike and reaction.
And, it's got a good blade, you don't have to look at it to use it, and it's pretty nice looking.
My only guilt about it so far is that I bought it at Wal-Mart:barf:

When I have to put three deer from the garage to the freezer in one sitting, my all time favorite knife is a Ka-bar Precision Hunter Long Point (not the Long Point Firm). It is one or two degrees firmer than a fillet knife, has a great handle for comfort, and responds very well to a quick trip on the steel to get it razor sharp.

This is the knife I appreciate most, because this is the knife that does the most work for me.

When i finally lost that odessey I tried like made to find another and i can not. It was a truely great knife, held an edge better than my chris reeves, my emersons, and my spyderco's. I'm a big fan of the SOG Seal Pup...I carried that for a year or so in the army, before I got hurt. I sold it to a friend going overseas right before I got discharged. Fantastic knife. Holds a razor edge for a long time, is extremely strong, reasonably lightweight, and well balanced. All in all, everything I'm looking for in a fixed-blade knife.

My all-time top knife-like object is a Leatherman PST-II. Compact, lightweight, durable, and fantastically useful. If I were to be stuck on a desert island with only a single knife/tool, this would be it. Given sufficient time, I could build a house with it. Remember: When you have a Leatherman, everything becomes Leathermanipulable!

My favorites change alot, and I can't afford the outrageously-priced stuff, but right now mine would have to be...

for an EDC folder, my Kershaw Spec Bump in S30V blade steel (mine is not the more common 154CM one shown here).

http://www.knivesplus.com/kershaw-knife-bump-ke-1596.html

Close second place in a folder is the CRKT "Desert Cruiser":

As for fixed blades, don't have a really good one...but I kinda like my Camillus Air Force Pilot's Survival knife. Cheap but good:

I really *want* a Swamp Rat of some flavor....now after this thread, my interest in the SOG seal pup is rekindled as well, not to mention the Gerber Applegate Fairbairn mini combat folder; thanks the hell a lot! :)

As for my favorite neck knife, well I only have one, so I guess it's my favorite - the SigTac PitBull:

My 3 blade Stockman.
I find it far more usefull than a single blade tactical knife. It's good for light to medium cutting tasks, easy to keep razor sharp, and I have used it a few time for emergency field surgery. (removing splinters, lancing blisters, and such) The 3 blades give a variety and I can use it 3 times longer before the blade needs to be dressed again.

the one that never ever leaves my pocket is the Demo knife. i have knives that are more expensive, but no knives that are more useful.

my other favorite knife is a stag handled Muela skinning knife that i bought in Spain a few years back, at the Muela shop in Toledo.

I only own knives to use. I don't knife fight and don't dream about knife fighting either. And I'm not a butcher. So. IMHO, before Schrade gave up the ghost, their cliphanger series was terrific. Gerber used to make a smallish LMF that was a very good knife. I have a relatively current Gerber EVO that is not bad for the money. But the knife that rides in the pocket everyday is the Case Serpentine Stockman, with that good old school chrome vanadium steel, and a jigged bone handle. A true classic. Cuts what needs cutting. Looks good doing it, feels good in the pocket. What else is there for a pocket knife to do?

Fixed blade numero uno in the knife using kennel club around here is the Dozier Straight Personal. Big enough and small enough, tough enough and sure as hell sharp enough, easy enough to carry and safe enough too in that awesome kydex sheath that Bob provides. If I could only have one, that would be it.

:) I have really enjoyed this thread. I would also like to know where all these beautiful knives are coming from, how much they cost, and how good are they in the field. I have a few on the wall. My favorites look the part from usage. Sorry, I don't have a good digital camera on hand. I'm always looking for a replacement to put the old ones into retirement, though.

Right now it is my new Kikuichi damascus 4" paring knife. I carry it around all the time in anticipation of the first vicious kiwi or stalking celery that crosses my path.

I have used my Buckmaster and Gerber MkII for 15 years. As they are no longer produced, if I had to replace them now, I would look at the Cold Steel line. I keep a CRKT M-14 tanto folder in my pocket at all times.

Fosbery, that's beautiful.

Can you say a few words about the blade finish, please? What are those patterns and how do they come about? (I'm not a metallurgy-literate person.)

Fosbery

That's Damascus steel (it's actually pattern welded, Damascus steel dosn't exist anymore but it looks just the same so that's what it is commonly called). It's made by welding thin sheets of varying types of steel and iron together to form a billet, the pattern changing depending on how the bladesmith shapes the sheets as he welds. The billet is then shaped and ground into a blade.

Lots of Damascus patterns out there, and also Stainless Damascus, which this is:

http://usera.imagecave.com/Valkman/LEO/LEO1.JPG

I bought that piece of steel at Blade 2005 (called Odin's Eye) and gave it to Trace Rinaldi and he made his model called the LEO out of it. Also has Carbon Fiber handles and mosaic pins. The steel alone was $220 - stainless Damascus is not cheap!

And to think Don I got to see it finished before you did ! :D

Trace's Carbon Fiber handles rock. I have a love hate with carbon fiber , I love when someone else puts it on a knife , I hate when I have to.

You ain't made a leather sheath for that yet Don ?

another of my favs... bottom knife , Blackwood Henchman ( top knife belongs to a friend and its a Blackwood Curr )

Everyone at the Vegas Show seems to have seen it before I did! :scrutiny:

No, never made a sheath. I'm never going to use it - I just can't. It's by far the best and nicest knife I have!

Steve, I don't even have a clue how he gets that F-22 Carbon Fiber, which is what it is. He somehow gets the remnants where they make parts for the new jets, and it's truly nasty to work with. You get Ironwood!

I'd still kill for a Henchman, maybe the favorite all of the knives I've seen except for Loveless.

I hear ya Don , pretty much like my damascus M.Strider WP NM , cant bring myself to use it , however my Henchman has made numerous appearances at steak houses across the Vegas Valley.

I don't have any practical experience using a knife in combat, skinning, etc.

That being said, I think that you can buy an excellent knife for $50.

I prefer Ka Bar with kydex sheath
http://www.knivesplus.com/KABAR-TRADITIONAL.HTML

This Smith and Wesson, although the velcro on the sheath is lame:

http://www.knivesplus.com/smith-wesson-knife-sw-cksurc.html

1095 high carbon steel and 440C Stainless seems to be very good for knives.

Cold Steel First Edition Tanto... bought it as my hunting knife when I was 18 or so.. still use it today.

Or the good old everyday Swiss Army Knife.. the new serrated blades are wicked and they lock too.
