Best CCW Handgun

I've been looking for a long time now and still can not decide on the right gun. I have looked at the P95, Sigs, HK compact, Cz P01 and the FN FNP 9.
I really want a gun with a decock. So the XD is out. the P95 is alittle big to carry it seems. I don't know much about the FN, but i do really like it. Also the CZ P01, but i have heard problems with the springs causing FTF and eject. I want something light so i will carry it. Please give me so feedback, and i know it depends on which one fits my hand the best. besides that.
Thanks guys

The HK P2000 series...
They are truly ambidextrous as well. The DeCock on the Variant 3 is in an unusual place but it is supposed to me very comfy. I am a lefty and like the my HK P2000sk with the LEM trigger.

Everyone on this board, except for the 1911 freaks...:D ...will have a different idea of what's best. That's because it's a subjective thing. Different shooters prefer different things and everyone has different concealment requirements. While some wear business suits, I wear jeans and T shirt. While some live where the temps never go over 85 degrees, the temps where I live often approach 100 degrees in summer and the humidities match.
This is my Kel Tec P11 in a Rosen IWB. I happen to think it's CCW nirvana. There are plenty of little 9mm compacts on the market if the Kel Tec leaves you flat. The glock G26, the Taurus Mellinium 101, the Rohrbaugh if you're rich, etc. I really like the compact 9s. You can even have one in .40 in a similar size if you want (G27). I like the compact, light, relatively powerful +P loadings in 9, and accurate little guns a lot. All of 'em are DAO guns and I like that. I prefer DAO for concealed carry, though I do like the decock guns as well. I had a P95 and it bulged a bit in summer T shirts, but was fairly easy to carry IWB otherwise. I can carry my P85 or P90 (.45ACP) about as easily, though. I think a gun needs to be a lot more compact than that. The compacts will even fit a large pocket and the lighter ones are excellent in an ankle rig, more concealment options than just IWB.

If you take into account reliability, accuracy and concealabilty the Sig 239 is the best I have come across.

I agree with MCGunner...
It's a personal choice, what fits me best may very well not fit you at all. I carry a P11 in a smartcarry rig (and a P3AT in a pocket holster), because it works well for me. My build, my daily activities, the level of concealment that I need, and the amount of weight I'm willing to lug around all day.
It takes time and experimentation to find what you're most comfortable with.

I'd decided on a Taurus PT745, myself.
I really have no idea how people can CCW what I consider full-sized autos... Where the heck do you PUT it?
Still 2 Many Choices!?

While definitely not a sub compact, it is small enough to not be noticed till needed...Carries well in all weather. Sometimes I ALMOST forget I'm wearing it:o

If you like the PO1, (and they are reliable as all get out.) then you will love the PCR, which is the same pistol without the light rail, which may make it more concealable for you. I have no difficulty concealing a PO1, or the PCR, here in AZ.
Find what fits, works well, and shoots straight. Then have fun!

Oh man...that's an EASY question. Why, I think the best CCW is:
Sig 229 .40
CZ P01
CZ PCR
Sig 239 .40
Glock 19
Glock 26
Taurus 650
Taurus 651
Glock 30
Glock 36
Sig 228 (but the G19 is better)
FN Hi-Power with SFS
and whatever gun tickles my fancy yet....heck, it's been 5 years and I'm still lookin'.

Last month I acquired an HK P2000 9mm with the LEM trigger option. I've tried various Glocks, SIG's, etc looking for a smaller 9mm weapon for summer carry. After 1200rnds now I believe I've finally found it. This thing fits my hand extremely well, doesn't rust, carries 13+1rnds and hides really well with a good holster. Quality is top notch and it has functioned perfectly with everything I've put through it. Can't really ask for more!

Depends how concealed you want to go. Here are my two choices--Smith & Wesson 340PD (.357 and 38 spl) and Springfield Armory Champion (.45 cal). I generally carry the S&W because it is so dang small and light!

Perhaps someone can explain to me the need to carry a desert eagle in a 50AE or some eq large hairy pistol. If you arent a law man the gun and the fact that its concealed is the weapon. Personally I feel no one really has any business carrying anything smaller than a .380 but have a friend who is deadly accurate with a ppk in .32 auto. The real deal is be awesome with whatever you carry. Of the some 50 pistols I have my choice regularly is a .380 converted bulg mak. The recoil is so manageable that shooting all day is nothing and the accuracy is just thrilling. The only down side at all is that it only holds 8 in the mag(sorta like a 1911?) but its always been my opinion that the only one that really counts is the first. The other 7 are just insurance.:scrutiny: The reason I mentioned the lawman is someone is bound to mention blah blah stopping power and crackheads or the like and unless you deal with these sort all the time most humans would roll up in a ball and cry if you shot them in the foot with a .22 now deer on the other hand have some real constitution.

I have a combination of guns for carry purposes.
Fall, Winter & Spring S&W 6946 in an OWB or IWB or Smartcarry (Medium)
All the time Kel-tec P11 in an IWB, Smartcarry or pocket holster (Compact)
All the time Kel-tec P32 in an IWB or pocket holster (Small)
All are DAO which are pull, point and click. :) The 6946 and P11 use the same mags which makes it much easier to carry extra mags.

I am a wierdo, I guess. I carry a Para Ordnance 14-45 LDA with a 14 round mag and one in the pipe. The appropriate IWB makes this a carry-able rig even under 100° Florida sun under a loose shirt (one of those Hawiaaaan Flowerdy shirts>)

I've been carrying a Glock 19 for a few months in Florida. It conceals easily under untucked t-shirt. Use two different holsters: 1) a Brommeland IWB; and 2) a Galco M7X. Both hold the Glock comfortably while working and driving in the truck.

If you're carrying in a holster, I highly recommend looking for a used Smith & Wesson Model 6906 in good condition. High capacity, compact, relatively light-weight, s/s and, most importantly, cold stone reliable.

The best thing you can do is find a gun that fires and round you like, and that you can fire accuratly. I love my SIG 229, but it's a little big for me to carry with the double stack mag and fairly wide body. I really enjoy single stack officer model 1911's if for no other reason they fit my hands well and fire a round I count on to be accurate and have plenty of punch. Just try then all out, ask yourself if you can handle carrying that weight all day and will it conceal like you want it to. Hope that helps.

Kel-Tec p-11 for the money size and cal., I think it's really hard to beat! It's quite accurate too. I tried the Cor-Bon hollow points I'll use for carry at 30 feet, out of 5 rounds, three were touching each other and the "strays" didn't wander very far at all.
Pay more for a gun if you have money to burn, but for me this little power house is sweeeeet.

I'm surprised it took 18 posts before someone mentioned the P7. :D
Seriously, other than being a bit heavy and a lot expensive, they're awesome as CCW pieces. If I had a nickel for every gunshop employee that was packing a P7, I'd prolly own another one! (I sold mine cuz it just didn't quite fit me. :( ) In the right rig, a slim P7 would conceal and carry well. It's not decock but squeeze-cock (snicker-snicker :p ), so it's safe and fast.
Of the pistols you listed, I like the P01.

+1 For the HK P2000. I have a LEM in 9mm, and it works very nicely as a light and compact summer CCW. I load it with 127 gr Ranger +P+ and I don't feel under gunned.

I just picked up a P7M8 this past weekend-new in box. I will use it as my CCW weapon out of state since I got my Florida-issued Non-Resident CCW permit. Sadly in the Peoples Republic of Maryland I cannot carry...one pretty much needs a message from God himself to get a CCW permit in MD. Sucks to be us, I guess-yet another reason I don't like this state... :fire: :cuss: :banghead:
But yes, the P7 is a great carry gun-slim, no snagging parts, easy to shoot, & extremely safe. Yeah, they're expensive, but you pay for finer things in life I guess. I like it, anyways. I will probably pick up a Para LDA, though-I'm not too fond of 9mm. Then I can carry 2 guns (S&W 642 w/Crimson Trace grips as a hold-out piece)!

Colt LW Commander, or SA GI Champion LW, equipped with some respectable grips, and XS 24/7 Big Dot tritium sights, will serve you well. The SA Champ will be less expensive, but the Colt will have the traditional, and somewhat preferable, IMO, bushing and recoil spring guide setup. Carry this in a Brommeland Max Con V or Sparks Versa Max 2, and put a spare mag or two in your back pocket.
..yeah, but what he REALLY wanted was a Hi-Power. Otherwise why do you think he went to all the trouble?...
I'm thinking maybe he was paid to design a pistol, and it had to differ enough from his earlier design, which was owned by Colt. Just a crazy idea...

Mr. Tuf Paws,
I'm thinking of moving up from a P-11 that I carry in a pocket holster with no-print panel in my right front Dockers pocket, to a PT-145. How do you carry yours? How do you like it and why. I'm aslo considering a G-30 but it may be too big.
Thanks

If you're looking for a CCW with a decocker, I'd look at the Sig P-Series and the HK USP Compact. They are very reliable guns.
I don't think you can find anything with a better reputation among military or law enforcement personnel.

I carry a Walther P99 compact in 9mm and love it. I loved it so much I bougth another P99c. Of course I ahve the fullsize P99 but dont carry it. CDNN had a sick deal on them last year and a few are still floating around at that price. This gun is very accurate and comfortable. Never had a single misfire in 800+ rounds.

Thank you for the replies for the people who gave comment on my questions. I never mentioned the 1911, but it always comes up. I have decide on the FNP-9, for several reasons. Its cheap, light weight, well made, has a decock, you can tell if there is an around in the chamber, and the look. The negative is that not many people know about them or have them. i asked one gun shop around here, and they never heard of them. I laughed that them. I hope i can find a holster for it.
thanks

Check out the CZ PCR. I've carried everything under the sun. 1911's, Glocks, etc. The CZ PCR holds 15 rounds of 9mm and is lightweight and slender. The spring problems were not actually problems, just people wanting to switch out the generally weaker European springs with Wolff + springs. Give the PCR serious consideration. You really don't need a light rail on a CCW gun anyways and the PCR is lighter than the P01. The Kahrs are nice but have a low round capacity when compared to the PCR.

Here is my current CCW lineup. Each has its own advantages and disadvanges. My Glock 29 gives me 10+1 rounds of powerful 10mm rounds in a very compact package but because it is a double stack it can print with tight clothing. My AMT Backup makes a great pocket pistol in .45 acp but only holds 5+1 rounds and the sight system (or lack there of) is nothing more that a grove along the top of the slide. Definitely not a distance shoot. And finally, my Sig P239 is a great all around CCW gun. It is very accurate offering 7+1 rounds of 40S&W in a single stack magazine. This gun is great as an IWB shorts and t-shirt weather gun.
(From left to right... Glock 29 10mm, AMT Backup .45 acp, and Sig P239 in .40 S&W)

I think you'll find that a lot or responses are based on what folks already own, e.g. "I already have a Taurus so that's what's best."
My big three has been constant for some time after owning, carrying, and retiring many, many handguns. At the end of the day, though, it's all personal preference!
