Well, I Did It...

The debate has ended and the war is over. I bought my first gun. It is a Beretta 92FS Inox in 9mm, a real beauty in great shape. You all may or may not remember my thread which garnered a lot of attention a month or so back about wifes/spouses who are anti. This is the follow-up report.

My girlfriend and I (who live together with her sister in a house owned by her parents, although I do pay rent) had several discussions spaced out over the past weeks concerning our ideas, reasons, and needs when it comes to firearms ownership. She explained her concerns and I stated how important my abilitiy to protect her and our home was to me, and how much I enjoy shooting at the range. What the dispute boiled down to (and to be honest I wasn't that surprised) was her parents. Her parents don't like guns and have always made that fact known, so much so that she said she didn't like guns mostly because her parents don't. :banghead:

However, because we live in a home which they own we must follow their rules, and I respect that. I would assume the same from someone living under a roof which I owned. But, she is understanding of the dilemma I am in, therefore she has agreed that I could keep the guns in a locker at the range until we move to our own place. She is in school now for her master's degree, but we will probably move up to northern California when she is finished in two years. Keep these facts in mind...

I am twenty-two and I have my whole life ahead of me to enjoy with my girl and my guns, two years is not that long in the grand scheme of things, after all, I've already been with her for six.

I want this to work out with her, and I've managed to broker a compromise that allows both of us to retain the crucial elements of our arguments (She won't have her parents down her throat, and I will own guns)

In any event, I love my new Beretta and I am down at the range (which I purchased a membership to :D ) as often as I can be. I am already lining up my next purchase, a Ruger GP-100 3" .357, which will still leave me ample room in my locker for future purchases as money permits (see: Springfiled M1A Socom 16)

Thanks again for all your responses to the first half of this thread. I hope the result is as satisfying for you as it was for me.:neener:

Chris

As a gun owner in California, I doubt your hassles will be much lessened by your move. Just try to stay away from San Fran :banghead: .

Glad to hear that you like your Beretta.

Congratulations on your purchase.

Unfortunately, the gun will not be available when you need it most. But, since it was agreed upon by both parties then I guess its acceptable.

Baby steps, shall we say? Enjoy your new gun.

where I come from, if you pay rent, then YOU control what goes on on the premises... (unless forbidden by the rent/lease agreement.)

then again, my GF (of 14 years) knows that guns are NOT on te bargaining table with me... i have them, carry them, shoot them... and will always do so!
