>6wk wait for Taurus revolvers in stainless?

I ordered a Taurus 65 and Taurus 650, both in stainless almost 7 weeks ago, but the dealer is saying they still havent arrived. He has said that Taurus no longer ships spent casings with every gun, so they have to be special ordered from Florida (where Taurus's US-based facility is located), but this seems a little ridiculous.
Does anyone know if Taurus has stopped including fired casings, or seen similar waits for their guns lately?

Kharn,
I hadn't heard that about Taurus and hadn't paid much attention to the availability of fired cartridges with weapons because it isn't an issue for most of my customers.. There does seems to be some truth to it though.
After reading this thread, I checked the availability of Taurus revolvers with fired cartridges for my 2 primary suppliers. One of these suppliers is the largest in the nation, the other is top five. Neither had any Taurus revolvers available with fired cases.
Good luck on the wait for both of your weapons.

Which dealer told you this? I called The Armory for a quote on a Taurus Tracker in .41mag and they also told me that Taurus is no longer shipping guns with fired casings. I'm not so sure about Taurus doing it as a special order (it would be nice to know Taurus will still be available in MD if they are).
I'm really not happy to see this confirmation (unless your source is also The Armory) since it would mean that soon Taurus will not be MD legal.

I have to ask why Taurus should have to go out of their way to satisfy the desires of one state's lust for unproven and unreliable "technology." If MD requires this, why can't the MD dealers test fire the weapon and send empty cases to their specific state's Govt?

Chaim:
I heard it from OC Outdoors in Dundalk.
Apparently they're getting the guns directly from Taurus as special orders, he also said he has over $8k of guns on order with them and even bought out all of Valley Guns' Taurus inventory (they lost their FFL) but none of those were of the type he'd already ordered.
asknight:
If MD requires this, why can't the MD dealers test fire the weapon and send empty cases to their specific state's Govt?MD law requires the manufacturer do it, or the dealer pay something like $50/gun to the State Police to do it (if they even still offer the service, since the last time I heard of that was when the law had just been introduced). They've been talking about dropping it, but with the Democrat-controlled legislature, we're stuck with it for the time being.

Just curious. I have been trying to figure out what the fired case is used for? The only thing I can come up with is a data base with all of these cartridges listed.
If this is the case, it would seem that it would take a large amount of money to be dumped into this sytem, and the results would be very limited as far as using it to catch anyone.
It would also be a hassle for the gun manufacturers just to comply with this law.

Its to compare the cataloged casing with a casing from the crime scene, to link the weapon (and its owner) to the crime.
In a blind study (casing entered into system via normal pathway, and then a casing from a "crime scene" sent to the lab), the lab could not connect the fired casing to the previously cataloged one. The State Police themselves have admitted the system had an effect in less than 5 crimes, and only a few positive matches have occured. They've asked that the money be sent to different MDSP divisions and the lab be disbanded, the Democrats want to throw more money at it until the problem is solved.

I thought that it may be something like that. It is amazing that they just keep betting on a dead horse.
Thanks for the info.

If Taurus warranty repair turnaround time is any indicator, it should only take them a couple of years to cough up a spent casing. That is, if they can manage to remember which gun they fired it out of.

Not like it really matters, considering they only want one fired cartridge for any handgun, even if its a revolver.

FWIW- I ordered a stainless 605 from bud's last thursday, and it got to my FFL today...but I guess thats what they had in stock, not necessarily straight from Taurus.
might want to give www.budsgunshop.com a try regardless

Back from the dead with an update:
The store's absolutely giant Taurus order came in (from how they were talking, it was well over 50 guns) this week, including my 650, almost 5 months to the day after I ordered it. But for some reason, no stainless Model 65s were in the shipment. Their sales rep is out of the office so they've been unable to find out where that one is.
I told'em to process the paperwork on the 650 and I'll do new paperwork for the 65 when it arrives.

5 Months?
Why not just buy a new S&W and be done with it? I won't wait that long for custom work much less a standard item, from anywhere.

I dont like the S&W lock on the sideplate.
Plus, I'm out of town a lot, so I kinda forgot about the order. :o

Bein' a Maryland resident, I can honestly say it's one of the most chickens--- states in the Union. I've seen gun store after gunstore close; I've seen Sports Authority and other big stores stop carrying firearms. None of the elected leaders seem to know anything about guns, defense or crime for that matter. If a person's going to have a gun, they should know how to use it, they say, but then they try using zoning laws to get rid of all the shooting ranges in the state. Want to shoot? You'll have to shoot stop signs (which, by the way, they take a dim view on, too).
I don't support any of the cop organizations, especially the FOP (which I used to donate to a lot). In 1996 it formally backed Clinton and I never got over it. Their political dealings are what keeps them from being a tax-exempt organization.
Don't get me started. :cuss:

Turns out it was the 65 that arrived, not the 650 (there was some miscommunication between the workers when I called), and its now in my safe. The shop guys say the 650 should show up soon, since Taurus stuff usually comes in bunches.
