Could someone please explain all the different types of shotgun ammo and their sizes. Someon told me to load #4 birdshot as a HD load. The only thing I really understand about shotgun ammo is the difference between birdshot, buckshot, and slugs. So could you please explain the different sizes and types of each. Thank you in advance for all your help and once again please pardon my ignorance.

Also, as a defense load, oo buck would be the route to go... Chesterfield PD uses it here in their on duty shotguns. And by gosh, they got more money to experement than I do.

In this thread (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=196326) A couple of people told me I should use #4 birdshot due to my living conditions. Why is 00 buckshot better for me than #4?

The smaller the shot, yes, more of them, however the penetration hole is not big enough, ( Dick Cheney 's accident ) the gent survived with minor (for being shot with a shotgun) injuries. If he had got hit with OO... it would have been 1 less lawyer. Go with OO and sleep tight, I GAY-RUN-TEE it will do what you want it to. Now as for going thru sheetrock walls... YEP wether it's 9 shot or a slug, it will. Due to that the wad that cups the shot will go out 25 to 30 yards, meaning that the shot stays in a clump until the wad drops and the shot expands.

My HD load is 00 Buck, but I know where any errant shot will go from where I'm shooting. It won't leave the house.
