Where are you?

I personally enjoyed Ruark's works.

I suspect you are looking for more information in regard to going, gear needed and such.

Not really. I'm looking for anything. Gear needed is only part of it. I won't be going for at least a couple of years out but I want to do more reading. Old stuff, like T. Roosevelt's books, is appealing but I already know about those. Just nosing around for personal experience with different authors and/or books as I don't really have the time to browse like I used to do.

I would do a search under H&H here on THR and TFL. Also conduct a search under Rich Lucibella while over at TFL. These are two I recall making mention of great books to read .

I always enjoyed the tales told by Capstick. Another good one is The White Hunters by Brian Herne.

Yep, Capstick, Peter H. for sure. Your local public library should have a few of his books.
The forums here are pretty good too. http://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve

For modern hunting in general:
From Mt. Kenya to the Cape by Craig Boddington

For Elephant hunting you could read the classics:

No more the tusker by G.G. Rushby
Elephant Hunting in East Equatorial Africa by Arthur Neumann
Hunting the Elephant in Africa by Captain C.H. Stigand
Bell of Africa by W.D.Bell

For general hunting of the turn of the century:

Big Game Hunting in Central Africa by William Buckley
African Hunter by Baron Bror von Blixen-Fineke, (Isak Dinesen' husband, Out of Africa novelist)

More modern:

Hunter by J.A. Hunter (and others books by him)
Hunting in Africa by Frank C.Hibben

Here you have enough for a couple nights:D

For adventures in hunting, Capstick's books are very good reading
