Anyone have a favorite? The best non-electronic muffs I've seen go up to 29dB. I always wear plugs under my muffs, but I often think I notice a little more tinnitus after a range session. Hard to say, since I already have some. Just want to preserve what I've got left after years of shooting, Navy service, and, oh yeah, a little too much loud Grateful Dead in my younger days.

For the last month, I've been using both plugs & muffs. The plugs are rated at 30 nrr & the earmuffs are rated at 29 nrr.

Plugs and muffs! For years I've used a custom-molded set of "musician's plugs" from Etymotics Research with the 25dB filters in for shooting, and now run a pair of Peltor Tac-6's on top of them.

It's like heaven. It's not a cheap setup, but it's absolutely fantastic. The custom plugs were $200 (about 10 years ago) and worth every penny.

The Peltor Bullseye Ultimate 10 (or something like that) are highly rated and extremely comfortable on my big head. I like the Remington foam plugs when I can find them.

The weakest point of many muffs is where your glasses go under them and let the noise leak in. I like the Peltor or the Leight models.

John...I wish I'd known about this stuff 40-odd years ago.

I've tried the Etymotics Research "headphones" and the sound that they produce is incredible, so I can imagine that their ear plugs would be first rate.
