What is the cleanest burning powder for the M1 carbine? I've been using 2400, and was wondering if anything was any cleaner.

Try WW 296 from Winchester.

I know several people who report excellent results with it.

I still use 2400 for .44 mag but am particularly fond of Vit N - 110 ... which I use in .357 mag .. it's a costlier powder but I have found it to be one of cleanest. In fact the Vit range is altogether IMO amongst the best powders around .. only cost and maybe sometimes difficulty in finding it act as downsides.

I loaded up 50 rounds of carbine ammo using W 296 and will try it (hopefully) this Wed. I haven't found any Vit. Vouri powder in this area yet. Thanks for the replys.

... in my experience with .357M and .44M. Remember, though, that you need a hot magnum primer to light this stuff, and a tight crimp to give it a chance to burn hot and clean.

With light crimps, I found it dirty, flashy, and spitting unburnt powder. Nasty. But, load 'em right, and it's fantastic!
