How to measure scope height...?

I need some clarification on this subject.

It seems that most of the major ballistics software packages have an entry for scope height over 'bore axis' (or something along those lines). Can anyone explain this in a little more detail? Which points are you supposed to measure from? Is it from the center of the bore to the center of the scope? And, if so, does it matter if you measure from the muzzle or from the chamber?

Thanks in advance! I'm sure someone here will be able to explain it to me. :)

You're right about what height over bore is. It's the distance between the axis of the bore and the axis of the scope, center to center.

The only thing I've seen that is a good measure was some L shaped doohikey you stick into the breech (after removing the bolt) in a bolt action. You just measure from the curve of the L to the centerline of your scope and voila, you have your height over bore.
