I picked up abrand new Kel-Tec PLR16(THEIR NEW .223 long range pistol-yeah right!) a little over a month ago. I put the front hand gaurd, delfector handle, and sling on as well as a Streamlight M6X . Untill Today I hadnt fired it. I had heard that it basiclly refused to act right on Wolf so I picked up some Remington UMC 45 gran JHP. I had a 20 and 30 round teflon coated AR mag loaded up and the kel-Tec 10 round empty becuase its a POS. I chamber a round and all is well. The round ejects, the gun fells great, and it is quite accurate with the iron sights. The accuracy really suprised me. I go to shoot the 2nd round and nothing. The trigger wont move. So I remove the mag and check the chamber and no round comes out nor is a round stuck in the chamber. So I figured the mag was loaded sloppy and made sure it was ok. I load the same mag chamber a round and it shoots but the next attempt does the same thing. No round chambered. WTF! So i put the 20 round mag in and the same thing happens. I then load up the Kel-Tec 10 round mag pull the charging handle back release and it gets stuck. The round didnt make it into the chamber. It gets half way out of the mag and thats it but Im sure this is becuase I didnt let it relase properly. But this isnt like what was happening after the first shot. After the first shot the 2nd round wasn getting picked up at all. The bolt was closing all the way. At that point I said screw it. I didnt have any other .223 and I didnt know what was causing this. So I basicly took 6 shots bolt action style the whole day. I wasnt going to get too pissy about it becuase I didnt have any other ammo to compare it too and I had two other brand new guns I was shooting for the first time. Any guesses as to the problem? Thanks for the help!

This is my dad's PLR. He had problems also, but has solved them with ammo choice. His runs smooth and perfect with the right ammo. I'll ask him what he's shooting.

Oil it and keep shooting it.
Mine was a little tight at first, especially with some new 20 round magazines and Wolf ammo, but it's smooth as glass now.:)

Yeah they are very accurate. Mine will shoot tighter 100 yard groups than my .223 rifles.
It's got me to thinking about buying a Kel Tec SU rifle.

My WAG is that it is the ammo, the lighter HP you were using is not generating enough or a long enough gas impulse to make the gun run, enough to run the bolt far enough to the rear to extract, but not to a full cycle where it can strip another round. Faster MV means the bullet is in the bore in between the gas port and muzzle for less time. Slower heavier bullet usually means more gas impulse. Same theory that bends op-rods on M-1s when people use heavy for caliber bullets. Looking forward to hearing more, between this and their latest rifle variant I'll probably buy one.

also make sure that the gas op rod is correctly in position.
you unlatched it to put the handguard on, correct?
