I recently acquired a 1951 Marlin 39A lever action .22 rifle that was topped with an equally old Weaver B 4 Scope on an N2 mount. Unfortunately, the scope has an especially rusty interior (flakes on the glass, you have to hit the scope with your hand to get them to fall off for a shot, then repeat after working the action) and one of the legs of the crosshair is broken and at a funny angle.

Also unfortunately, the rear sight was removed entirely, which left a nasty dove-tail groove in the barrel. The N2 mount was screwed into the barrel with 4 screws. So without a scope, the gun will not be particularly useful.

I suppose that I could remove the N2 mount and install a new mount for a 1" tube scope of my choice, but I'd rather not be responsible for Bubba-izing this gun further.

The gun is, without a doubt, worth the effort, however. It out shoots any other 22 I own, and is like a laser within 75 yards (the entire magazine within a quarter at 50 yards if I am doing my job).

So, what are my options for 3/4" tube scopes?
Am I best off bidding on a replacement scope on eBay?
Or is it possible to find a new mount for a new scope that will use the same holes as this old mount uses?
Is it possible to find a rear sight for this gun?
What did the rear sight look like in 1951?

Yep, ebay. I have scored so many cool things from there as well as Gunbroker. Good luck--

I have an old westernfield, I think it's a 4x15, if you want it.......for the price of shipping....... you can have it.
I can't tell you anything else about it other than when I obtained it, it was mounted on a 22 magnum I bought.
If you are interested, you can e-mail me : ogree@juno.com
In the subject line.....type "scope" in bold letters so I won't overlook it.
