I'm looking to buy a well priced Ruger GP100 .357 at slightly above $200 for home sd and fun at the range. Wanted to check on the auto-loader board to see if i'm missing something that would persuade me into an auto instead of a well priced revolver. Anyone have any opinions on this? (I am more concerned with affordable home sd when it comes down to it)

In that price range the Ruger revolver is your best choice. You can't beat the DA revolver for reliability and safety.

I own a couple of auto's, and 1 revolver, plan on more revolvers in the (near?) future and for what your intended purpose is, that Ruger would be an excellent choice. Simple manual of arms, extremly low chance it won't go bang when you pull the trigger, even lower chance it won't go bang a second time ;)
The .357 packs a good punch, and can be loaded with a .38's for cheap(er) trigger practice at the range and they can also do a good defensive job if you don't find the .357 comfortable to shoot (and some people don't)
Go with the wheel gun, you can always buy an autoloader down the road.

Good choice on the GP100. It'd take at least twice the money to even come close to the same quality of build and reliability as the GP100 in an autoloader.

I own a GP100 357. Well made and has held up well. I bought it new in 1987. I would recommend one. If you don't know what to look for when looking at a used revolver (I am referring to wear and tear, problems, etc.), have someone trustworthy look it over. If you already know what to look for, nevermind.

One more thing: One of the reasons I purchased this Ruger model (aside from the quality I know of with Ruger) was the rubber grips. They really help with the recoil. And I didn't have to purchase additional grips for a brand new gun.
