I assume that when you ask if there is "any way around this" you mean legally. There are no illegal options tolerated here.

Find a local gunstore and have the gun shipped/transferred to them, this will however increase the price with the cost of shipping and whatever that store asks for 'supplying' the gun to you.

You should be able to get a fairly decent revolver for the amount you specify without going online and incurring these extra costs though.
Just look in all the local gun stores until you find what you need.

The law is pretty clear- the gun needs to be shipped to an FFL holder (gun dealer). Most will be willing to handle the transaction for anywhere between $10 and $50, but that price is entirely up to the dealer, and they may charge more or less or even nothing if they want. Once the gun gets to the dealer, you go through the process required to purchase it in your area.

If you really want to avoid going through the "hassle" and "added expense" go to your local dealer and check out their used guns. There is often used .38 or .38/.357 revolvers available at reasonable prices.

Assuming that there's no legal reason for you to be prohibited from owning a firearm, you should be able to find pretty much whatever you want at a local gunshow. If you don't know where gunshows are, just do a Google search on your state and "gunshow".
