If you had to give up one of your quality guns for what ever reason(confiscation, evacuation, etc,) Which one would it be and why?

I would give up my Hi-point first. Lowest priced gun I got.
next on the list would be my RIA 1911.

NOT A DARN ONE !! All I got to say is tune into the news, 'cause there is gonna be one hell of a shoot out if they try to take it. I ain't done a thing wrong, so they ain't got no right to ask me to turn it over.

I have often thought of getting a Lorcin or the like and a NEF shotgun just to feign compliance in a SHTF situation.

I currently have some 22LR rifles that don't feed too reliably. I could part iwth those if the JBTs would then think my house was "clear."

I would consider getting a cheap .38 special revolver. I got some good reasons for this.

Most police and military are not gun people. I know there are quite a few who are gun people however the vast majority are not gun folks. Many TV shows (Lot of Law and Order: SVU / CI and CSI ) have the detectives ask the suspect if they own a gun. And they always say yes they do and it is for self defesne around the house. 9% of the time that gun is a .38 snub nose or other smaller style handgun. Sometimes it is Grandpas .45 that he brought back from the war. But the stereotype of an older gun that is not practiced with or cared for is being reinforced by people of this country. (The people on this website are probably a little bit different:) )

And if they do come I am going to have my wife or girlfriend give the gun up. I would rather pretend that I am silent and angry. It looks a lot better than ranting and raving and starting a shootout. This could lead to people looking at you as the local nutcase because they are sheep. I would rather be silent at first and then quietly assemble other people who think like me if you know what I mean. And it is easier to do this if you are alive and not seen by others as a crazy irrational person who cannot choose their battles wisely (getting into it with military or LEO when they are clearly outnumbered).

You did say quality gun, right?
Well, the NEF Pardner 20 gauge is about as quality a single-shottie
as you're gonna find, so "Here ya go, ossifer."

Hopefully the Smiths, Marlins, Ithacas, Rugers, and Remingtons won't have separation
anxiety over its departure. ;)

If it came down to it I have a chrome Jennings .22LR semi that we affectionately call "the pimp gun" in my gun circle. It's a jam-o-matic. Don't ask why I have it. Long story.
By this time the rest would be buried in the back 40 in GI ammo cans with silca-gel packets and lots of spare ammo. Learn from the IRA on that one. Squirrel guns away.

Although, that thing shoots under 1moa, and flat like a laser out to 130yards...would be useful for facials.

I would tell whoever is coming for them
that i turned antigun. Then you tell
them "I've taken them all to a gun
buyback" or I've sold them all.

My collection is kind of fluid.
I have some of mine because I really like them. Those ones are the ones that I plan to keep. One example of those would be the Mossberg 500 that I bought to keep at my apartment. I have only had it unlocked and ready to roll twice when someone knocked on my door late at night (both times they were apparently looking for my neighbor) but I have shot it quite a bit and I have huge respect for it. It is a keeper.

I generally have a few others that can be sold off to fund other purchases or traded toward something else.
Right now I have a pretty nice Norinco SKS, a Finnish M39, a CZ-75B 9mm, and a Single barrel NEF that I could part with. They all represent something that I already have covered in my collection by something else.

Notice I say "part with".
As far as "give up" goes...
That is a whole other discussion.

I guess it would have to be my AMT Backup .45acp. It is the cheapest gun (other than my Mosin) I have and easiest to replace.

Springfield M6 Scout. It's the one I use least often.

I would rather bury it and let it rust than give any up although the Handi Rifle in 223 does come to mind if I had to. Steve 48

I like the caulk gun answer! For a real answer...any one of my pistols as long as I can keep one. But never, ever give up any of my 19 rifles!

Give up a gun? A quality gun?

No way.

Wait.

On second thought, I've got a fine .380 Tanfoglio. Picked it up at an estate sale years back. Paid a princely $85 for it. I could probably live without that one. Isn't Tanfoglio considered a quality piece in Europe?

That'd give me room in the safe for another S&W or Colt. :D

I have an unfired CBC single-shot shotgun that has over the years at least doubled in value to about 50-60 bucks! I'd give that one up if I had to, I suppose.

Hardtarget
April 27, 2006, 10:19 PM
You did say quality. Well, I only have a few in that bracket...so they go with me. The one I'll give up is the Mossberg, 12 ga. , bolt action shotgun. I think I've shot FOUR rounds through it in 15 years...it just takes up space in the safe.
Mark.
I should add...I'm a lefty...and I don't like bolt action shotguns. It was given to me.

...from my cold dead hands. :neener:

probably my Mosin-Nagant. Its been a great rifle, but I own more accurate milsurps worth more money, but the MN certainly qualifies as quality in my mind. Solid build construction, combat accurate to several hundred yards, digests the nastiest stuff without issue.
