View Full Version : What's the one handgun you WANT to carry, but DON'T?

This isn't really a 'favorite' handgun thread.

Which handgun do you own that you wish you could carry, but can't or won't because of various reasons (i.e. too big, too heavy, too expensive, sharp edges, wrong defensive caliber, not practical, etc)?

I, for one, carry a G26. It's the best shooting gun that I can easily and comfortably conceal in ANY clothing I decide to wear. However, if I had my choice, I would carry a Glock 20 with fitted Barsto barrel (just too much gun for my mode of dress and my job). Either that, or a SV double stack .40 racegun (same reason as above and also too expensive)!!!

How about you? (Sorry if this has been done before)

full size USP .40 with hi caps. its too big for me to conceal well on my skinny little behind. so i carry a compact USP .40. :-)

Well, I'd say that's a pretty acceptable compromise!

I've owned a Para-Ordnance P-13 for several years. It is my favorite handgun (the blue 4" 29-2 is a close second). I bought it for carry, but its weight and bulk, combined with reliability issues have kept me from toting it regularly. Oddly enough, like Bobarino, my steady sidearm is a .40 USPc. Go figure. The H&K is reliable and works in every other regard, but I can't warm up to it.

Well... ANY of my guns, seeing as I'm in benighted Wisconsin, land of no CCW (and I'm starting to think little hope of such)...:fire:

Now then... assuming we HAD CCW here... I'd have to answer the Automag. Very comfortable to shoot, a power factor of 300, but WAY too big...

Ruger Birdshead Vaquero, 45 LC...stainless w/ebony grips. Gorgeous, but just not practical.

Broomhandle Bolo. I'd feel really cool carrying it but it's not
practical for a number of obvious reasons.

Just like Hunter Rose, all of them. :cuss:

But if I could, I would like to carry my USP .45 Compact, but it's probably a little big for me, except maybe in winter.

Whatever is unpractical about any Mauser Broomy? If my Bolo would actually work (gotta send it back to the shop, won't reset). I wouldn't feel outgunned...

And... a "Star Wars" conversion 9mm, loaded with tracers, would end almost ANY gunfight...:what: :scrutiny:

My Colt Delta Elite. Love the gun, but it's too big to carry comfortably, and too powerful in an urban setting IMO. However, I do carry it in the wild.:D

My Beretta compacts M. I have a Class B permit that makes me carry unloaded and visable so I say "the Hell with it." :(

the new Smith and Wesson 500 magnum:D not at all practical but you probably wouldnt even have to ever pull the trigger on any bg's

If I had as much money as I would like and I was built like a tank, I'd probably carry that German made 600 N.E. revolver, now that would make Dirty Harry's hand cannon look like an anemic cork gun.

Hunter Rose, gbelleh: That's gotta suck.

Mas: You can carry but unloaded and visable? That's really gotta suck!

Ruger Redhawk. Too heavy or just haven't found the right holster yet.

Practically speaking, I carry my ideal pistol: foo size 1911. But I wouldn't mind toting an SAA every now and then. The reason isn't the bulk, it is just because I would rather have the 1911 in a fight.

P7m7 in .45acp. The only reason I can't carry it is because only six were ever made and none are for sale.

My 6" bbl. .357 mag. I like it, but it only holds 7 rounds, it is big and heavy, and I don't shoot it enough to feel comfortable carrying it. Also my full sized Kimber .45, it is a great gun, but not 100% reliable and I don't like the idea of a trigger pull that light for carry, not to mention I don't train with it, so if I ever needed it I might forget to drop the safety.

I carry Glocks and feel compeltely comfortable with them.

My 1076. Too expensive to feed, so I compromised and carry my 1911.

My Browning H-power customized by C&S...not authorized by my dept. so I will have to get by with a P7.....still better than a sharp stick or a rock..

I wouldn't mind carrying a Texas Longhorn Arms #5 grover improved in 44 mag but I don't own one and MN doesn't have CCW yet. The #5 is a work of art carved out of tool steel I've heard but I have yet to have the privlige of handling one and the are out of production. A good second choice would be a freedom arms SA in 45 colt or 44 mag 4 3/4 bbl express sights with spare ammo cept in a desert eagle mag.

I like the idea of maximum firepower. Since I live in VT I would carry my Super redhawk if it wasnt for work. I think the hotel guests might be a little intimidated by a 50 oz stainless revolver (esp those from MA or NYC). Otherwise Id like to carry a sig 229sport in .40 or a Desert Eagle .44, but I cant afford either yet.:D

A supressed HK USP Tactical with a UTL - and a dozen 13-round mags; with my katana, of course. . .

or:

A new G20 with an M3 (and that proverbial dozen hi-cap mags)!

I'm more than happy with my USP Compact, though - but a girl does dream!

Actually,

Its my Kahr K40. Why don't I carry it? Because I still need to qualify with it through the department.

I took it to the range last time to qualify, but after shooting my duty gun and my other off-duty guns, there was not time to shoot the Kahr also.

So, I content myself with carrying my HK USP45 Compact, my S&W 342PD, and of course my duty weapon until the next time I can get to the range with another instructor.

Pre-agreement Smith & Wesson model 629 with 6.5-inch barrel: it's just too heavy and bulky for the small of my back.

April 25, 2003, 02:23 AM
I would like to carry my Grendel P-30, but it's not reliable enough to do so.

Would be kinda cool to carry it and get into a discussion with another CCW holder.

"Well, I carry 2 + 1 mags for a total of 30+1 rnds. How about you 22x9?"

"Well, I carry 1 mag. I think that more than that would be over doing it. I wouldn't mind carrying 2 + 1 mags, but I think carrying 90 + 1 rnds is a bit much, don't you?"

Well, like Hunter Rose, ANY of my guns, because CCW is completely illegal throughout this entire stupid country! :banghead: :cuss:

Firearms have to be transported unloaded, with no rounds in any magazines (otherwise, full magazines are considered "loaded firearms." :scrutiny: ).

So yea, any of my guns... :(

If the law and concealability weren't a problem, i'd especially like to carry a Springfield Professional Model 1911-A1 0.45ACP in an IWB Sidearmor holster, with one or two spare mags in Sidearmor mag carriers, all mounted on a decent 1.5" gun belt, such as a Wilderness.

9mm Glock 17 with high cap mags. Too much weight, bulk.

.45 Colt Gold Cup. Weight, bulk. Also it gets too pampered.

.45 Glock 36. A "sometimes" carry gun. Purchased to carry in lieu of Colt, but no lost sleep if Glock gets rode hard and put up wet. :D

9mm Kahrs. Also "sometimes" carry guns. K-9 is slim and a great shooter but 32 ounces loaded. New PM-9 is more comfortable, but still, 19.4 ounces loaded.

PM-9 is fine with jeans or ankle carry, but still "heavy" to me compared to S&W 340, which appears to be the one that is going to continue to be "always" gun - at least through draw-string short season. :)

It sounds like you're asking what would we carry if it didn't have to be concealed? ie. Open carry.

Well, if that was the case, any of my more powerful firearms. My SIG P220, S&W 686+ 7-shot .357Mag, Kimber .45, etc.

You know, last time I was at Cabela's I almost bought a cowboy shoulder holster for a 7.5 inch vaquero. I carry my vaquero in the woods a lot, can't imagine needing a concealment holster for it though.

Some days money is just there to burn holes in your pockets.

Wish I had a decent concealment holster for my Luger. :scrutiny:

... when I first bought it, I COULD have concealed my 'Mag: a shoulder holster was included in the deal. Sold that to someone else, figuring that there was no way I would EVER risk loosing my favorite pistol...

I have two. A full size (steel) Government Model 45 ACP and any of several N-Frame S&W revolvers. I have quality holsters that will conceal these weapons but the drawback for me is weight. I have a seriously injured lower back and just can't stand the weight all day long.

I'm stuck with aluminum and/or polymer frames just to get through the day.

One comes to mind very quickly: Walther P38!! The design does not lend itself to concealed carry, which is understandable, because it is a military service pistol!!

I recently fell in love w/ a .357 Blackhawk. I want ot carry it in a holster all decked out Cowboy style. Then I'd have to get Boots and hat to match . Just to much trouble........................

Who says men can't accesorize??:D :D :D :D

G29 10mm, a real pocket full of dynamite that I cant shoot worth a damn because of the small grip; the G20 is too big for me to comfortablly conceal.
