I have just purchased a new 686, and was dismayed to see the finish of the cylinder shaft - that is, the yoke shaft on which the cylinder revolves. It has been crudely hand filed, and the gun dealer (here in New Zealand) told me "you get what you pay for". I would have expected a CNC finish that was at least paraleel AND round. has anybody else noticed this poor quality finish in this area??:fire:
The rest of the revolver is fine.

regards

I doubt that I would have accepted it, retract that, I WOULD NOT have accepted it in that condition. I too would like to see a photo, but I believe if its in that condition your dealer is blowing smoke. I have several late model S&Ws includeing two 686s that are finished rather nicely.

I've been thinking of getting a 686, so I've been looking.
No, I haven't seen anything like this.

The comment "you get what you pay for" suggests a store I wouldn't frequent, but that is me. Smiths aren't cheap, btw. Who else makes a quality revolver now except Ruger?
Well, S&W has a life time warranty. Since you have paid for this, I suggest you use it.

I have two 686's, a 6 inch and a 4 inch.... Neither of them have the finish you described.

Something stinks......:scrutiny:

That gunstore owner is weird. Maybe he has a Korth on his shelf that he wants to sell to you. Otherwise, can't imagine what he means by implying that Smiths are inexpensive. They aren't.

Finish on my 6" S&W 686-5 looks fine, as well. Could it be that you
just happened too get a bad one?

When people complain about finish issue, I think it should be mandatory that they post pics! ;)
I'll post mine later so you can compare it.
