I would appreciate opinions on J-B Bore Cleaner and J-B Bore Brite. I have recently tried both. My initial impression is that I like the Cleaner, but I am not sure the Polish is worth the extra time and trouble. Your thoughts? Thank you.

I have used J B cleaner and Kroil for a few years and have been very happy with them. I have not tried the polish. After all the scrubbing it takes to clean the bore, I have not wanted to spend more time trying a much finer grit.

JB Bore cleaner for regular cleaning? I vote against it. JB Bore pastes are abrasives and will wear down the bore because it will take off metal.

Most people who use this stuff will use it mainly to remove tool marks/chatter from factory barrels.

Stick with chemical cleaners. It takes longer, but is safer. Go with Butch's or Montana Gold and you'll be good to go.

I used JB Bore scrub to lap slides..... Would never use it in a bore that was not already ruined by rust and abuse.

Used the paste on a barrel and found that it is indeed possible to really take metal off the barrel. I would not do it unless the barrel were in really poor shape and would not shoot. The benchrest guys do this, but look at how frequently they replace barrels anyway - my (uneducated) guess is they replace them before the JB causes problems and that it's a kind of lesser evil thing for them - the bore wear from JB is less than the problems caused by fouling.

When I shot moly coated bullets I'd use a little of it every now and then. Moly will build up just after the chamber and the JB was great at removing it. I've also used it to very gently lap or polish 1911s slide to frame fit. I would only use it on rough bores or if moly is used.
