I started a thread last week re: my recent gun re-registration here in Chicago. Thanks for all the great feedback.
Well, the process was a pain as it was, but now I've received my registration materials back from the CPD. While one omission was my own fault, there was a sheet stapled to each of my gun registrations asking for more information about each of my firearms. The addition was as follows. Sorry for the length, but folks should know what they're going to be asked.
1) If the firearm you are registering is a rifle, answer the following questions:
Type: 1. Bolt action 2. Automatic 3. Semi-automatic 4. Lever action 5. Pump action 6. Belt fed
Does your rifle have a folding or telescoping stock?
Does your rifle have a pistol grip that protrudes?
Does your rifle have a bayonet mount?
Does your rifle have a flash suppressor or barrel having a threaded muzzle?
Is your rifle a grenade launcher?
2) If the firearm you are registering is a handgun (includes revolver and pistol), answer the following questions:
Does your handgun have an ammunition magazine that attaches to the outside of the grip?
Does your handgun have a barrel having a threaded muzzle?
Does your handgun have a shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned?
Does your handgun have a manufactured weight of 50 oz.s or more when the handgun is unloaded?
Is your handgun a semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm?
3) If the firearm you registering is a shotgun, answer the following questions:
Type: 1. Bolt action 2. Automatic 3. Semi-automatic 4. Lever action 5. Pump action 6. Double barrel 7. Over & under
Does your shotgun have a folding or telescoping stock?
Does your shotgun have a pistol grip that protrudes?
Does your shotgun have a fixed magazine capacity in excess of 5 rounds?
Does your shotgun have the ability to accept a detachable magazine?
These changes were not publicized in any way that I'm aware of, but it sure sounds like the Daley folks are fishing. Pity the poor sap who tries to make a good faith effort and register his/her handgun in Chicago. The registration makes no mention of any of these types of guns or features being illegal in Chicago. They just lay it out to see who'll fall in.
