Did I miss it?

I have owned guns all of my life. I have often heard from other gun owners ( and said so myself) that if the goverment ever banned guns I wouln't comply and I would do whatever was neccesary to protect my constituional rights. With the current uproar over the re-establishment of the so-called Assault Weapons Ban, I have been thinking about the situation in California. Certain classes of semi-automatic weapons were completely banned there and I am wondering what gun-owners there have done in response. Was there any mass civil-disobedience demonstrations against the law? Was there a mass effort to organize people to publically ignore the law and force the state government to deal with the fall out? I'm really curious, not just bashing California. Did gun-owners in California just roll-over of this one? If one million gun-owners announced that they wouldn't comply with the new law would California arrest them all?

Judging from the compliance rate for the 1989 Roberti-Roos ban, most just ignored the ban and kept their semi autos under wraps. I did register a FNC because I wanted to be able to shoot in competitions with it.

I replaced the flash suppressor on my M1A with a compensator to avoid having to register it under the latest ban.

There were some rallys and demonstrations, but nothing on the order of the 1992 Los Angeles riot.

All of my "banned" rifles are out of state.

I am leaving this liberal stinkhole after my current contract to teach runs out in May. The legislature and governor are about to tighten the screws on the budget in the form of fee increases for services (easier to raise than taxes) and massive cuts in services. I think their fixes will be smoke and mirrors and harder times are just around the corner.

Businesses are pulling up stakes and moving to friendlier states. I think Buck Knives moved to Post Falls, ID, and offered to assist in moving any employees who wanted to go with them.

There won't be any mass arrests. Law enforcement will just pick off the hold outs one by one as they get in trouble for other violations, domestic violence restraining orders, or the police make "plain view" discoveries while dealing with other issues in the owner's home or automobile.

Everyone I knew who was in California and had an "evil assault rifle" has either left the state, or hasn't registered it (them).
