According to this news story there is speculation that organised violence or terrorism could manifest on June 6th this year.

With June 6, 2006, rapidly approaching, authorities in Colorado and elsewhere are carefully watching to see if that date - 6/6/06 - spurs demonstrations or violent activity.

They are aware that 666 signifies the Mark of the Beast or the Antichrist to some organizations and believe June 6 is a date that could trigger problems.

"It's been a conscious question among some of our folks, so they've been on the lookout for something," said Lance Clem, spokesman for the Colorado Department of Public Safety. "But they haven't seen anything."

Even so, some local police are being vigilant.

"The bottom line is that our intelligence unit is familiar with 666 and its significance, but we don't have any information about anything taking place in Colorado Springs," said Lt. Rafael Cintron of the Colorado Springs Police Department. "However, we are certainly keeping our feelers out to see if anything is happening."

Some dates and anniversaries can be calls to action for white supremacists, racists, and conspiracy and prophecy theorists.

April 19, for example, is the anniversary of the raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas; the Oklahoma City bombing; and the raid on white separatist Randy Weaver's home at Ruby Ridge, Idaho.

The Number of the Beast, 666, is mentioned in the Bible's book of Revelation and is believed by some to be when the Antichrist will exercise power over Earth.

The Internet is full of websites that predict terrible things could happen June 6.

Since 1970, there have been 60 terrorist attacks on June 6, with just one in the U.S., according to the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism in Oklahoma City.

I know the story has no solid evidence and is merely speculating but it has alerted me to the fact that June 6th could be a possible problem, one to watch in my opinion. There are enough crazies out there willing to try and become infamous and this does present them with a 'focus' of sorts.

Agreed duckslayer. But the crazies of today are a special breed, maybe it's the meds.

666? Nero is long gone! I doubt if any acts of terror are carried out against a long dead Roman Emperor.:D

Unlike July 7th, or September 11th or March, I am unaware of any events in Islamic history that would give rise for concern over June 6th?

Anyone know of any events that would matter to the New Barbary pirates?

Oh, gawd - now we have to be on the lookout for religious crazies. Wonderful

Why would Islamic fundamentalists use a primarily Christian defined event as their trigger for terror?

Since they believe Christ was just one of several prophets that preceded Mohammed, they don't believe in the AntiChrist in the first place.

This whole thing sounds more and more like one of Louis Farrakhans wacky "numbers" speeches.

Just my .02 as usual.

(But, if anything does happen that day; flat tire, sour milk, short changed at McD's, it will be Bush's fault and will be duly noted here within ten minutes, that's for sure.)

That's just it--they won't!
(At least I don't think they will.)
Like you said, the date doesn't mean much to them.
Furthermore, does, "Hey, let's plan an attack on this date that the Americans have been expecting us to attack on (And possible have greater defenses built for that day.) for a year!"
Then again, they are pretty crazy.
They may know that we least expect them to do something on the day we most expect them to do something...then...*brainsplode*

Did 9-11 mean something to them? It certainly had connotation in our culture. Did they select it for that reason? Or was it coincedence? What makes you think that they are paying attention too?

Nero is long gone!

El Tejon is correct. The "666" significance had to do with the numerical equivalent of Nero's name. The event is past. (Early preterist, if you will.)

The warnings in Revelation were given to Christians who were currently experiencing persecution. That's what Revelation is, viz., encouragement to 1st century suffering Christians. If it were talking
about events two thousand years into the future, it would have been absolutely useless to the people to whom it was written.

Rev 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass;

3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

If anything out of the ordinary happens on the 6th, it will not be because of prophecy. I know, no one here has suggested such. But I have read it elsewhere.

Henry, September 11th was no accident as it was choosen to relate to a prominent date in Islamic history (the final turning back of the First Invasion). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Vienna (I just cited Wikipedia, I feel so dirty and ashamed).

Pinned, if anything happens on June 6th it is the fault of Haliburton, or Nero in conspiracy with Haliburton.:D

Didn't we do this last year when it was 5/5/5? I know the numbers don't have as deep a meaning, but the doom and gloom predictions were all over the place then too......

6/6/6 I'll have an extra mag of 5.56 on the table just in case I guess....

So far I've managed to get through 5/5/55, 6/6/66, 7/7/77, 8/8/88, and 9/9/99...althugh the first one isn't in my memory, the others all predicted dire things to happen. Guess 6/6/66 had too many 6's to interrest the anti-christ.

Wait...just checked...turns out he had a cold that day, so put off world destruction until 6/6/06

Quote "This whole thing sounds more and more like one of Louis Farrakhans wacky "numbers" speeches."

Don't you realize how many letters are in the word Wacky? Five! The ancient Hindu word for five is... that's right... ghuru. Guru in modern Bintu means spoiled rice cake, which has 15 letters. Three times 5 or a TRIPLE CATASTOPHE.:banghead: Which means on the date 6/6/6 and 5:00 pm, est, a very bad thing will happen, per Master L. Farrakhan.:what:

I'm glad I could clear that up for you.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Sorry, but unless there's some serious facts to back this story up, it's nothing more than shiftless fear-mongering published because it's a slow day in the news room, and I won't be party to it.
