Hello,

Looking for a scope for a Savage 114 in .300 Win Mag.

I narrowed it down to one of these.......for those of you that have experience with either, which one should I buy.

Monarch UUC: 5.5 X 16.5 X 44MM A/O

Bushnell Elite 3200:5 X 15 X 40MM A/O

Thanks for the input

I have one Elite 3200 3x9 Firefly and one Nikon. The Nikon is a fixed 4X Rimfire Classic. I like them both. The rainguard on the Elite is NOT A GIMMICK. Strongly suggest you look through both and handle them before you buy. If they're on equal footing otherwise, the Rainguard would have me favoring the Elite. That said, the last riflescope I purchased was a Sightron SII. I thought it was marginally brighter and every bit as clear as the Elite I was comparing it with, and having heard others speak highly of the Sightron, decided to give it a try. It's on a .22-250 and hasn't gotten a real wringing out yet. OF the two you mention, either would be a good scope. Best of luck to you on whatever you decide on.

+ on the elite, uses bosch and lomb glass, and it's rainguard really works.

Both are good scopes. But other than Rainguard, the Monarch is the better scope. Better clarity, light transmission, just better. Now Elite 4200's are comparable to the Monarch's. Nikon Buckmarks are roughly comparable to the Elite 3200's.

I own a Elite 3000(B&L), Elite 4200, and a Monarch.

I don't own either, but have handled each. From my limited experience, they seem pretty equal in that they will each be more than functional (I'm not an optics snob). But most owners say that the Monarch line is better than the 3200 line. Monarch lines up better with the 4200 and I believe that the Monarchs are more expensive than the 3200's so I'm not certain this is an apples to apples comparison.

Owners of the 3200/4200 line are fanatical about the Rainguard coatings. If you plan on using this outdoors in bad conditions, that might be the deciding factor. I've heard absolutely nothing but praise for that, and never a single word of negativity. I'm sure Nikons are rugged, but I know that Bushnell pounds each and every scope in a machine that simulates recoil as part of their QC. Looks brutal.

I believe both of them offer no-hassle lifetime warranties. You could also check into their resale values and see which one holds better.

Ok, thanks for the input.

Here is my issue:

Before you ask, my buddy is a dealer and giving me his cost on the scopes.

Elite 4200: 4 x 16 x 40 A/O $321.00

Elite 3200: 5 X 15 X 40 A/O $237.00

Monarch UUC: 5.5 X 16.5 X 44 A/O $317.00
4 X 12 X 40 A/O $292.00

Ok, if I want to save a little money, then I guess it would be simple and buy the 3200.

I have the money for either scope and it will be going on a Savage 114 in .300 win mag. What scope out of these is best, or will I even be able to tell. I have a 3200 already and really like it, and my cousin has the Monarch listed above. Hell, to me they all look crystal clear.

I know about the coating on the elites, but I thought all the top scopes are fog / shock proof....so does it really matter? Anyway I'm leaning towards the 4200.

The Nikon should be the brightest due to the larger objective, but that's in theory, anything (like coatings and glass quality) can come into play.

You can get that Nikon with the BDC reticle, that's pretty cool.

I don't know, they're all good. For those prices, flip a coin. Or go with what you know.

You could go to SWFA's forum and do a search or read up. Or try on one of the various "sniper" forums on the web. They all have optics sections and the guys there are ultra picky optics snobs and are fanatical. If you can dig past the all the bashing of Bushnell and Nikon as being unsuitable junk for precision shooting (by their standards), you'll be able to see what they prefer. There's got to be a concensus about which one is optically better. In my experience, Nikon gets talked about more, but the tactical line.....

Better yet, maybe Zak Smith will give his opinion. He seems to know a great deal about optics and long range shooting. He posts here on THR and has a sticky at the top of this forum.

They both are great scopes. Well now about the rain Guard.I hunt coyotes. Coyotes don't like the rain and either do I. I had a Burris black Diamond 8x32x50. It was a lemon, lucky for me Bear Basin outfitters let me exchange it for a Leupold Vx111 8.5x25x50MM,I waiting for delivery. Does any one have any experience with that scope and the varmint reticle?:what: :neener: :cuss: :banghead:
