Well both of my local gun shops were out of 9mm JHPs today so I bought a box of remington UMC 115 gr JHPs at wally world along with some WWB 115gr ball. These won't replace my Glock 22 w/ 165 gr GDHPs as a primary defensive load so rest easy on that. At under $16 per 100 how good or bad are these? I've googled the web and searched THR and haven't found much out. Any info would be much appreciated.

They're not bad. In my experience, they have MASSIVE muzzleflash, so they are what I use when I'm trying to take cool pictures.

I've experienced great accuracy with them out of a BHP in 9mm and a 1911 in .45. Like you said, they won't replace your Gold Dots, but they're a lot better option for things like jackrabbits. ;)

Remington-UMC ammo is usually good ammo, but loaded a tad on the HOT
side~!:fire:

Although I've heard others complain about it being dirty and various other problems, I haven't found that to be true in the many rds I've fired in my guns. I've had good very good results with UMC ammo in .45ACP, 9MM and .38 Sp. Wish they made 124gr hollowpoints in 9MM though.

In my experience, the UMC JHP is on par with the Winchester White Box JHP. The Winchester (at least in .45ACP) is prettier (UMC cases look dirtier), the Remington is a touch less expensive. Accuracy seems to be a wash in my gun. WWB seems to be a bit dirtier.

So, I do this one on price- I just get the Remington/UMC. It's about 5 bucks less for 100 rounds.

Yes,plenty of muzzle flash and they seem
to be a little dirtier than most.I use
them as range ammo once in a while and
have had no problems with them.

I use the .40 in my HK. Works fine, hardly notice the flash.

My Bersa .380 loves them.
It's the most accurate ammo that it swallows.

I've used Rem-UMC hardball without being able to tell much difference in power levels, but the 100-round JHP packs are undeniably loaded hotter. I kinda like it that way, though. I highly doubt that they're even approaching +P status, so I'm okay with it.

From what I've seen, Remington UMC is the top of the line in budget hollowpoints. But I'd recommend a premium hollowpoint for serious use.

I like the UMC ammo. I have shot it in my Ruger P89 and it shoots just fine.

But what if you can't afford to run 100 rounds of Gold Dots through your gun (and then another 100 for your wife's gun) without having to give up practice for six months? I'd personally rather use a less expensive JHP like the UMC while I save up enough to buy enough Gold Dots to test for reliability and then enough to load all my carry mags, while I practice enough to remain confident of shot placement.

i try to avoid umc. my experience with it is it's dirty (.40, 38spec and .357mag). for bulk shooting hp's i prefer cci blazer. i dare say the economy brand Aguila is even cleaner than UMC.... in my experience.

Start reloading. Remington Golden Sabers cost about $13 per hundred, while Remington FMJs cost $11 per hundred, when bought as components... It's really ridiculous how much more places charge for loaded hollowpoints.
