Just like has occasionally been reported in other threads before, here, and elsewhere regarding the frame rail cracks on early 1980s P226s....:(

I sent mine back to SIG and they replaced the whole thing with a new-production unit, complete with accessory rail, etc.

Paid my own shipping, and had a transfer fee upon return of the replacement to my local dealer, but they gave me two brand-new standard capacity magazines in the box. That's up $80 at retail, and fully repaid me for shipping and transfer fee!!!

Looked at the frame and the thinnest part inside the frame rail looks to be maybe 25% thicker than the old unit. Both old and new appear, visually at least, to have the same amount of "fillet" or rounding in the corners, which tends to prevent cracking according the materials engineering text or two I read years ago.

The magazines are far stiffer in the follower, so I took a peek at my old ones (I disassemble everything and take out all the assembly oil 'cause I HATE getting dust-oil mud inside my stuff), and the new production mags from Mec-Gar have 3 more coils than the old ones, which doubles the free length beyond magazine length. And for you Glock fans out there, the followers appear to be unchanged after 20 YEARS!!!

I'm not a SIG fan, but I'm glad it all worked out for you Grump. It's hard to put a dollar value on good Customer Service, but it is so important & the internet really helps spread the word.

that's Sig's "new every 20" guarantee. Every 20 years they send you a new pistol just to say "thanks."

That's great to hear but I'm not surprised. Sig has a very good reputation for taking care of their customers.

That is good customer service!
I have owned 3 Sigs and currently own 2. They have all performed flawlessly so I have never had to use their service but it's good to know in case I ever do.

Very good for you.

I bought a P239 in .40 with white dot contrast sights not too long ago. I to use it for the first time, and noticed that the rear sights were set into the dovetail cockeyed, and angled forward.

I sent the slide to Sig via my FFL, and three weeks later I got it back.
They gave me a brand new slide, with an upgrade to Nite-sights already installed, no charge.

If something HAD to go wrong, I can't complain with how they made it right.
