First, I guess I shoot 1911s best, and I like 'em. Lately though, I've had a flirtation with revolvers, and I've picked up four K-frames in the last six months (19, 13, 64, and 617). A couple months ago a friend of my mom's gave me an old Interarms Virginian Dragoon in .44MAG. I got some dies and have been reloading it and it's FUN!

I've long been intrigued with the S&W M25 in .45 Colt. My question is, what are y'all's experiences with this? I was talking to a guy the other day who said he had two 25-5s and NEVER got them to stop keyholing because of the oversized barrel and cylinders, but that the 625 and Mountain Guns were probably OK.

Or should I just go with a .44MAG, like a 629? (I'm not really interested in .45ACP revos).

I do enjoy my 625 tho sadly it's a dash 6 and has the crazy spider hole! It is tho recreational only so no biggie. Great shooter. Don't totally discount a .45acp revo.

But yeah - if you can find a 629 then that will I am sure please. Better still if you are loading that cal. I have several .44 mags including a Smith 629 - and I am an N frame devotee too - but the 629 is another dash six so another darned spider hole! It shoots good tho and I even added CT grips - tho it is a bit punishing being only a 4".

I managed to find a M29-3 at Tulsa Gun show and that is superior to my 629 IMO - and if you can find an earlier 29 do jump on it - good shooter and good investment.

N-frame S&W Revolvers in .44 Magnum are my favorite Big Bore Fun Guns. One 3-screw Ruger SBH .44 Magnum hangs around with the S&W's. The Ruger is the most accurate one.

Thanks Jeff, but I think it's a kEePeR. You probably are aware of the history on those but I'll tell you anyway :D

300 of these were made in the year 2000 for Camfour Distributing Company. Each gun was numbered under the grip and behind the crane. This one is number 013...the 13th one made.

They were originally distributed with Hogue rubber grips...pretty ugly. These have MIM trigger and hammer but do not have the internal lock. The S&W Product Code for these is 103839

I've owned 2 S&W model 25-5s, and neither had any accuracy issues. I'm also very fond of my 625-6 Mountain Gun, and don't count out the .41 Magnum if you like the idea of taking the road less travelled...

At times in the past, for reasons unknown by me, S&W would on rare occassions assemble some two-tone blue and nickel revolvers. The slang name for these are Pintos. Some folks like the looks of 'em and some folks don't...I like them!

It's hard to determine the value of a Pinto. Most folks say at least two to three times what the same model in a standard finish would sell for. I've only ever seen two for sale...this one and a model 34.

Most of them are not S&W Factory assembled. Or, they were single finish guns that were sent back to S&W (or elsewhere) to be converted into Pintos....those look as good but the value is no more (sometimes less) than a standard gun.

I have a S&W Factory Letter on this one. It is legit and was assembled this way by S&W originally at the time of manufacture. It was shipped from the S&W Factory to GT Distributors in Rossville GA on May 28, 1975...31 years ago!

The nickeled parts are the barrel, barrel pin, thumb latch and screw, ejector rod, and side plate screws.

I lucked out on this one and bought it about three years ago for $300. I thought that price was below market value for a standard finish 29-2. I then sent for a factory letter and was excited to find out it was a Genuine Pinto.

:D n frame smiths! now we talkin! i love them!!!! i have a 629 no dash 4 inch that lockes up tighter than any i have ever seen also a 29-2 nickel 4 inch 624 4 inch 4 inch 27-2 , 2 27-2 5 inch get you a n frame you will love it too!:) *csa*
