I just bought a Ruger SP101 stainless and it has a couple minor scratches and a deeper one on the tip of the barrel. Does anyone have a tried and true technique for buffing out the scratches without dulling the finish. I just love this little stainless powerhouse and want her to look real purdy. Ive got the same gun. I know what you mean when you get a new toy and see it has a blemish. The scratch at the tip of the barrel, is it in the crown?

Not sure about buffing out scratches. Usually Im the one that puts them in and I just chalk them up to character. Ruger does add a nice finish and I would be afraid my repair attempt would grow into something larger. I wonder if you can send it in to Ruger and have them fix it. Or a professional gun finisher Im sure can take care of it, just depends on the $ you want to spend.

Your reference to the tip of the barrel - if you mean near the rifling, you should probably leave it alone. If it actually extends to the edge of the bore, it may need professional-level attention.

The finish on most Rugers is really a "brushed" sort of finish and can be easily touched up with Scotchbrite pads. Many recommend green, but I have had better experiences matching the factory finish with gray and/or red pads. You can often find these at woodworking stores. Mind you you use the pad and on flat areas try to back it with a block so that you get even treatment on the flat surfaces.
