Well my step-father brought home a new HD gun for him, a Remington 870 Express Magnum (With the 7-Shot Extention). Anyways, I have a couple of ?s. First off, I can't get the barrel to remove from the receiver during disassembly as stated in the manual, any tips? Also, I scrathed 2 parts of the barrel when putting the magazine cap on by reverse by accident, are there any touch up paints for this? Thanks in advance. :)

Barrel:
Oh that barrel will come off. Probably just need to give'r a whack to break off the newness.
Take the mag extension off, then take the nut off that holds the barrel on. When you're taking the nut off, be watchful for the little detent and spring that's in the barrel band (that's the part that makes the audible clicking noise when you tighten/loosen the nut). It might want to fall out, but you don't want to lose it, if possible. She'll be fine without it, but it's a pain sometimes having to make sure the nut is tight, constantly (FWIW, none of my 870's, past or present, have the detent present. You learn to live without'm).
Also, I suggest letting the follower drop out of there too, so you don't lose it in the following steps....
Turn the gun muzzle-down, and gently tap the end of the mag tube on a wooden tabletop, making sure your hands aren't holding the barrel. You can put a towel down if that floats your boat. It might require a little more force than a light tapping, but work your way up from light taps to stronger taps gradually. She'll break loose.
The barrel might need a slight upward swing from the receiver once it's band is clear of the mag tube. Some do, some don't.
Then, take it from there with slide/bolt disassembly. Write us back when you get the bolt carrier hopelessly stuck during reassembly, and we'll walk you through that too.:D (all jokes aside, it will happen, one time or another...)
Touch-up:
Touch up an 870??? Are you kiddin?:D ;)

yankytrash, thanks for the info, I'm going to try your advice in a little while and let yall know what happens. As far as the touch-up, yeah I do kinda need to know since it scratched basically down to the steel, and since this isn't my gun (Im the firearm expert in the house, everyone else just knows how to shoot them, not disassemly), so if you know anything that would work I would appreciate it. Thanks for the advice!

Okay, Part 2: I have the magazine spring removed and all, but I noticed something today I didn't notice last night. It seems that the barrel is welded to the magazine tube, so this is maybe why the barrel won't separate? I've included a pic of the spot for reference.

Silver: That part with all the little ridges that sits on top of the 'welded part' is part of the connector, it comes off too, it will be really tight and then the barrel will come off.
Sorry, I don't know the actual techie term for it.
Congrats on your purchase, I just picked mine up also.

shadow1, how exactly does the "thing with the ridges" come off? I still haven't quite got this thing disassembled yet, and I'm getting a little frustrated, no other gun has ever been this irritating. I think I'm going to need some recoil therapy after this :)

I use a padded set of channelocks or vicegrips. Go easy, it's easy to skwoosh it out of round.

Just turn it off-----Right is tight-----Left is loose. The ridges are for your fingers to grasp. Or in other words----clockwise to tighten----counterclockwise to loosen. Don't use any tools----just grab it real tight and twist. Repeat-----DON"T USE ANY TOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!----FINGERS ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm just wondering if you damaged the magazine extention---getting it off like you have so far----the extension should come off with the ridged nut----because that part is what is supposed to hold the extention in place. I'll have to go look at mine after work today to be sure.

BTW----that cap/nut has detents under it----that's why it seems like it's welded on------just keep twisting and it will come off----don't mind the clacking sounds----that's just the detents grabbing----doing what they're supposed to do.

Yeah, I didn't use any tools, it was really hard to get off, I ended putting on a leather tool glove to assist in grip and then it came off pretty easily
