I bought some night sights for the charles daly .45. i got the front site off and the new one in no problem. But the rear site will not come off and it has taken many licks with the punch and hammer and it wont move. Any tricks to remove it?? should it come off on the left or right or either side. any suggestions?:cuss:

does the sight have a set screw? if so, make sure you completely remove the screw from the sight.

most of the low mount novak or heinie rear sights have a set screw.

yes it has a set screw and i removed it but it is so tight in the dovetail almost seems welded. I was just wondering if i could drip some solvent or something in the set screw hole that would desolve locktight? but still safe on gun blue??:banghead:

you could try some break free CLP, or some hoppes solvent. I wouldn't leave it soaking for days, but a few drops in the screw hole may free up some of the locktight...

Heat, use some heat. Heat the sight blade up to about 200* and try again, it should move. DON"T heat the slide, heat the sight. Then whack it and it should come out.

It needs to be TIGHT!!!

Take too much off or take material off in the wrong place and the sight is toast.

Flat file the bottom of the dovetail until it starts, then press/drive it home. MEASURE the dovetail, drive it in from the wide side to the narrow side.

I never dreamed how much work putting sights on could be. Anyway, I have the new front sight in and the rear sight is within an eighth of an inch of center but it just wont move anymore. The bottom of the sight is taking some abuse. Anyone got any ideas on what will make that last 1/8 movement. Any tricks or is there a special tool that will help? im afraid to use screwdrivers and such...
Any ideas???

Thanks for all the removal info guys now just a little installation info and ill have it licked....:D

How hard are you whacking the sight?

I fit them where it takes a good smack with a 4 ounce brass hammer to get it to move, I make SURE they won't move.
