My wife got me a Mossberg Maverick for valentines day (Now thats love!) and I have taken it out a couple time now. For the price it is damn nice! I put 100+ rounds through it in an outing and it had no firing issues, no aiming issues, nothing wrong that I could find.

My only grief would be that the pump action is a bit rough, but otherwise a great product for the price!

I've got an 88 Maverick too. i put an ATI top folding stock on it, its my truck security system:cool: i've had more rounds through it than i care to count. for the price its a great gun. its really fun to take to the skeet range and outshoot the guys there with their expensive skeet guns:D

Not Rio Salado. I go to Sycamore Creek or out by Peralta trail most times.

I am going to get an 18in barrel and perhaps the ATI stock. Does the stock fit well? I was unsure if it would fit. Will other model 500 stocks fit too?

anything that'll fit a 500 will fit a maverick. the forends do NOT interchange.

Are there any after market forends that fit the Maverick 88?

Every 3 to 5 months I ask Google what it can tell me about Mav. 88 forends, and it doesn't give me any answers. Good luck.

I haven't fired mine yet, I've had it for a couple of years. I bought the HD version.

I would rather have had the Remington 870. But my wife saw me make some remarks about the 88 while we were shopping at Wal-Mart and got it for me. The 870 has smoother action and just feels more solid. My buddy has one and I have fired it several times.

My Maverick 88 was a bit rough at first, too (1990 vintage).

But after about 500 rounds, it smoothed up nicely. Not as slick as the 870 Wingmaster, but still a solid serviceable shotgun.

There are two forends for the 88. One is seen on their website at:

http://www.maverickarms.com/pages/88security.htm

The other (which is what I have) is seen here:

I would rather have the one seen on their web site.
