Last year in VA it became legal to conceal on school grounds provided you're still in your vehicle picking up the kids.

My question...what if I'm on my motorcycle? Don't get off the bike?:scrutiny:

I would guess you'd be ok. Motorcycles are regulated under the same department of transportation/motor vehicles as automobiles. It would be hard to say that a motorcycle could be treated as a motor vehicle in some situations (e.g. traffic laws and DUIs) but then not in other situations.

Seriously, Chris, what's the difference between CCW on your bike and CCW in a convertible, or driving up with your windows rolled down?

Sounds to me you are looking for a problem that does not exist. Why would you, the driver, get off the bike when you drop off or pick up your kid?

OK, I just answered that one for myself after looking at some touring bike configurations with separate saddles/seats for driver & rider - looks like the rear passenger can't get off till the driver makes some room. If thast's your situation, then I guess the response that meets your question best is the old saying that "concealed means concealed."

The law was written in response to a real problem - that CCW-ing drivers were stopping on the road before the school, getting out, taking off their guns & putting them in the trunk, and then reversing that after they had dropped off the kiddies. The premise was that there is more danger from repeated handling of a gun than from just leaving it on - in spite of the absolute lack of death, destruction and mayhem reported either before or after the law went into effect.

I see the bottom line as the Virginia blissninnies lost a round in the eternal struggle. Pull your tinfoil hat a bit tighter and figure out why you want to make a problem here.

stay safe.

Not sure what you mean by that. I was just asking a legitimate question.
