Once again another long story as to how I got to this point....

I have unique powder - cci small primers - 155 grn LSWC bullets...

Anyone have a recipe to load these for a .40?

Thanks

My Lyman Pistol and Revolver Handbook only lists one 155gr bullet for .40S&W and that one is jacketed.

For a 155gr Silvertip, the published load for Unique is 5.8gr (min) for 847fps to 6.5gr for 1011fps at 22,800 CUP. 1.125" OAL

For a 150gr Cast bullet, the published load for Unique is 5.0gr (min) for 980fps to 6.3gr for 1196fps at 23,000 CUP. 1.090" OAL

For a 175gr Cast bullet, the published load for Unique is 4.7gr (min) for 898fps to 5.8gr for 971fps at 23,200 CUP. 1.110" OAL

From this, I'd start at 4.7gr and work my way up. I'd probably stop at 6.0gr or less. In a .40S&W you'll want to watch for signs of leading as well as the pressure signs. I'd accept low velocity over leading as long as it functions in the pistol.

Thanks - That seems to be the general consensus -

Think I'm going to have to go shopping for a few more reloading manuals as well. I kept it to two for starting as I didn't want to overload myself with information.

Scooter,

The closest I can come to it is a 150 grain cast, the lyman mold #401654.
The 48th edition of the Lyman reloading handbook shows a starting load of 5.0 grains of unique for 980 fps at 18,600CUP and a max load of 6.3 grains for 1196 fps at 23,000CUP. I hope that this is of some help.

I saw that, however, being new, I was looking for specifically LSWC.

I did e mail alliant directly and they told me for the 155 grn LSWC to start at 5 and go no more than 6.
