16 gauge 870 question

I have an old 870 wingmaster in 16 gauge. I don't know how old, but about 1/3 of the blueing is gone. Remington makes a 16 gauge slug barrel for the 870. Does anyone know if a new barrel will fit any 870, or have any changes been made that would not allow my to put a new barrel on an older gun?

I don't think there's been any significant changes to the 870 in the last 50 years to the barrel or action. You could go to the Remingtons web sites online help center, select ask a question and get your answer direct from Remington.

The new barrel should fit. Remington has always made the 16 on the 12 frame, and states all parts are interchangeable within gauge.
20 gauges were made on the 12 gauge frame at first, then the Light Weight receiver has been used since the early 70s. Those parts may not interchange.
Take good care of your 870. With care, there's no reason your great grandkids can't use it...
