Oh yeah my first shotgun.

I picked her up last night. A Maverick 88 service model. I looked at the 870 and the one he showed me was easily the ugliest gun I have ever seen (although the 870 with a 28" barrel and wood stock cought my eye) and I couldn't tell a difference between the 88 and 500 so I got the 88. Very happy.

Congrats on your first shotgun! I'm still looking to get mine. Let me know how it shoots. So it really didn't feel any different than the Mossberg 500? What barrel length did you get?

18.5" barrel and the only diff. is the saftey but fit wise it was the same. The 500 was 40% more than the 88 at $230. I couldn't justify the extra money just so the engraving of the side said mossberg.

That mav should last you for many thousands of rounds. If it's your first shotgun,be prepared...it won't be your last.:)
If you're new to shotgunning start with someting other than slugs, they will kick the snot out of you and teach you what 'flinch' means.:what:

Maverick is owned by mossberg. In fact when they called it in they put mossberg on all the paperwork.
