Off-duty Houston firefighter shoots would-be robber

A would-be car thief gets shot by an off-duty firefighter.
ABC13 Eyewitness News

(1/02/03) — A Harris County grand jury will have to decide if an off-duty Houston firefighter was justified in shooting a suspected car thief.

The firefighter tells police he heard people trying to steal his minivan outside of his southeast Houston home Wednesday afternoon.

Police say that's when he pulled his gun and shot at the robbers. One was hit, but he's expected to survive.

Police interviewed the firefighter after the shooting and arrested one of the suspected thieves. Three more suspects got away.
