Went to the Cheyenne Wells machine gun shoot today in eastern Colorado.
HOLY CRAP WAS THIS A LOT OF FUN.:what:

We shot
Uzi, Thompson SMG, MAC, AK47, M16, FAL (a lot more controllable than I would have thought), M60, M240SAW, M2 .50BMG (this is beyond cool, thumpthumpthumpthump), 20mm Lahiti (I feel like John Ross), a 37mm anti-tank gun (boooooom) and
and
and
a minigun. 4000 rounds per minute (not a typo). 300 rounds were gone in 6 seconds. fuggin amazing.

OMG this mini-gun was cool. Look at the pic, there are at least 4 cases in the air between the gun and the roof. The noise is makes is amazing

look at the size of this 37mm round, it's huge. BOOOM, and the whole piece moves backwards about a foot.

check out the workmanship on this lahiti. Amazing, it's man portable artillery piece. And, oh yes, it recoils, quite a bit.

look at the size of the 20mm round vs a 50BMG case
http://home.pcisys.net/~bdhopkins/guns/fullauto/20mm50bmg.jpg

this M2 was cool as hell. I had wanted to shoot one no matter what. He had all tracers and you just walked it in. Very very very cool. I want one.

The M240 SAW. This was a really cool weapon. You just got into it and walked it around. I would shoot bursts, the wife would pull the trigger and let fly. Neat, fun too.

The M60. figured what the heck. It was a lot lighter than I expected. And funnily enough, it did jam. Not as much recoil as I would have expected.

Oh boy, that's too much fun for one man.

Are those twin .30's in the background? I also can't believe you didn't try the MG42/MG3.

Ditto on the hating!:fire:
I would also want to go to this (http://www.armedforcesjournal.com/blackwater/?s=2003_side1). Maybe someday.

Yep. Twin 1919's one guy shot them off while we were nearby. Very cool.
somebody else had twin .50's. Looks cool as heck.
We saw one lady try the MG42. It's very fast, much much faster than most of the rest.
It's very cool just to see some of these things really run that you usually can only read about.

This was probably the coolest thing I've done with guns.

more pics

the Lahiti (far left) and two 37mm and one 75mm (75 in the middle)
http://www.pcisys.net/~bdhopkins/guns/fullauto/arty.jpg

The 3" gun I mentioned above, along with the sign. Notice that it was on those stands and it moved backwards off them after firing. Thing must weigh a couple tons.

Another amazing Lahiti. This one had skies, magazine everything, was just beautiful, even the wood. This one was not for rent, but the guy did shoot it.

Couple 1919's, a MG42, and a Russian something (dunno, don't remember)[8P]

That is cool! I have never met a better bunch than Class 3 owners, as they love to let everyone shoot their stuff. It's almost like it's no fun if only they shoot it! :D

What great fun!!! I'm, like, really jealous.

As a plain old CCW guy, I don't have much practical use for full auto, but it sure is fun once and a while. It's worth a bit just to say, "BTDT", it's part of a well-rounded firearms education, but I wouldn't want to feed one on a daily basis.

It's like, I was sailor, & I liked to point out to my powerboating friends that I rarely had to buy more than 10-12 gallons of diesel a season. But - I have a buddy with a 38' Cigarette with twin supercharged 683 cu. in. engines. He likes to run across the Bay for crabcakes in St Michaels. Takes about 1/2 an hour from Solomons, and once you figure n the fuel, they're $100+ crabcakes (before beer), but once a year, it's a great way to get your ys-ya's out:D
