Knife Grabbing???

Dear All,

As some would already know I CAN'T have access to firearms beacuse of the harsh leftist authorities. That being said, I have invested precious time and resources to acquire a few good fighting blades and the training to use them for self defense.

The :cuss: government however seems VERY eager to defang the entire civilian population :fire: and insists that all hunting/camping/utility/combat knives be registered to the purchaser at the point of sale. In other words, all my blades can be traced to my address and to me though my national ID number. (I did not order though the internet because I feared a visit from customs agents should my blades be discovered thru a x-ray.)

Ok, here the fear.......a spate of knife related murders occurs and the government goes to each registered retailer demandind a list of their customers. They then go door to door confiscating combat knives. :fire: Or....a comflict occurs with a neighbouring country and the authorities "appeal" to all knife owner to "donate" their blades to the armed forces. If not enough blades are "donated", the po-po go around to "requisition" knives based on store porvided customer lists.

I've no wish to give up legally bought private property to the govt and forfit the right to defend myself and my family. Anyone have any advice on how I may hide my knives or keep them safe from the grubby meathooks of the authorities? :uhoh:

Yeah, here's an idea for ya. Immigrate to the United States.

Exactly where is it that you live?

Kannonfyre,

If I were you and felt the way you fell...I'd move to the US. Failing that, start looking at high end kitchen cutlery. Some of the knives made for the kitchen can substitute for the finest "fighting" knives. Given your locale, that's where I'd spend my money.

But, personally, I'd abandon all this angst and emigrate. It's like this, guy, you're not happy there, you're not comfortable there, and if you keep on, you're going to get in trouble there. So leave.

Remember you had visited family in the US...next time don't go home! Sounds like crime is heavy in your area, and the governments not much better, without the arms to protect yourself why do you stay?

Move my brother. Come to the USA. And if you miss those pesky Leftist type, you can go live on our left coast and still have guns to shoot at the natives when the go into their 10 riot cycle! The next one is due soon folks! Stay tuned and enjoy the Koreans shooting looters :D

Chef knife, and shut up about it.

I would say your government is crazy to think they can make any difference by registering knives, but I suppose they've got all the guns already.

High quality cutlery. Several brands of chef knives behave the same as fighting knives.

Never been in a country that has restricted chef knives.

Bolo and machetes are nasty implements. Most countries allow historical knife weapon collection.

What country do you live in?

To all,

Yes, I understand the bit about chef knives but the good ones sold are commonly quite large and good for home defense only. ( I currently use a butchers cleaver in response to attempted break-ins.:D ) I can't find any suitable ones for EDC and even if I did, making a good leather or kydex sheath myself would be a pain in the a##.

Also, what should I do about the blades that I already own? I have two well used tactical folders and 3 fixed blade utility/combat knives. Does anyone have any advice about burying caches of equipment? Any ideas of how to make my stuff "disappear" to someplace safe? What should i tell the cops if they ever come around for a confiscation exercise?

To CWL,

yes, bolos and machetes are fearsom tools but they too are regulated. The local army surplus store sells them for about US$40-50. However, I still get my details recorded by the clerk. :banghead:

++++++++^^^^^^^++++++++

Lastly, leaving my homeland is one option but isn't the job market in the US very tight right now? A new immigrant finding a job would encounter SERIOUS challenges.

I have used all my knives to cut meat (food) so if the Gastopo asked if I had any fighting knives etal in an effort to regulate them I think I could honestly say I only had "cooking" knives.

If your place is subject to search then of course I would hide them...not knowing your layout and the extent of a search it is hard to give advise as to where to hide. Wraped in an oil cloth surrounded by a dry cloth in a double sealed plastic bag in the water tank of a toilet? In the attic, false wall, loose floorboard? All worked when I was a kid hiding my vices from my parents!

I love where I live in California, can stomach the gun laws, but if I ever had to worry about what knife I had in my home I would be gone to freedom real fast...

Kannonfyre, you still haven't said exactly what country you're living in. I might be speaking for others besides myself here when I say I'm darn curious about the country you live in.

Don't sell immigrating short. Some of the most successful Americans of all time were immigrants.

Where I come from?

A few clues.......

Population: 90% sheeple (Majority ethnic Chinese, ethnic indians and indigenous muslims form large minorities)
Government: Leftist dictatorship
Regional location: S.E Asia
Legal paradigm:Inherited english common law from British colonialists, penal code "modified" to suit the authorities, punishements made twice as harsh, NO personal liberties or rights.
Geopolitical sitaution: Staunch US, British, NZ and Aust ally. Constantly wary of potentially hostile muslim neighbours nearby.
Economy: Used to be pretty good but with the global economy vomitting, the average citizen earns about US$17,000/yr. (Good points: sales taxes are low, income taxes are low, basic services are cheap.)
Crime: Officially reported crime is low but armed robberies are rising 'cos of poor economy. Many crimes are unreported because there's little evidence and it's tough to catch the perpetrators. Youth gangs getting more aggressive by the day. Govt firmly believes in weapons control.....home ownership of guns not allowed(life imprisonment for possesion), fighting/hunting/utility blades/martial arts weapons must be registered, OC/CS/CN spray illegal. Even martial arts students must be registered with the police and only approved M.As are allowed to be taught. (i.e. Kali/FMA is illegal, CQC only allowed for special forces.)
Final hints: Was once described by the Asian Wall Street journal as "Disneyland with capital punishment". Also....and I kid you not....oral sex is ILLEGAL.

That doesn't tell us where you live.

Why the guessing game?

look for the small city state sandwiched in between Malaysia and Indonesia.

Duh, he lives in Singapore.

BTW oral and anal sex are illegal in much of the US as well, just at the local or state levels. Likewise knives and guns and the like. Your problem is that what in the US would be a smallish state is your entire country so you can't just leave.

On the other hand because of the strong centralized control over resources, your nation has gone from a city on Malaysia's butt to one of the most important in the world in ~30 years. Most people don't realize this but a significant fraction of the worlds trade goods are protected by the Singaporian Navy (and the US Navy) during their trip through the Straits of Malacca. Similarly, your lack of civil liberties has prevented Malaysian Mulsims from creating a Singaporian 9/11 a few times already.

Would I live there? Not permanently, but I might visit. Its not my style of government but it seems to work for the vast majority of Singaporians.

Singapore? Now I understand!

Ok, classic cacheing may be difficult due to the limited open land free from ready observation. You may want to take a hide in plain sight approach. A good kitchen block with a number of internationally availble kitchen knives (Wustolf, Henkel, etc.) would serve. Pick the one that you want to carry and any sheathmaker can make a sheath that he has a knife to pattern it after. Order said knife on the net and have it sent it to the maker and tell him he can keep it after he sends the sheath to you. Or, buy a piece of kydex and make your own sheath.

To protect your current collection from seizure - don't bother. If they were valuable enough you could keep them in a safe deposit box sealed in vacubags. If they are standard production pieces you'll go to more expense than they are worth protecting them from Big Brother.

Why can't you leave Singapore for somewhere more knife/gun friendly?

As I said, many of the most successful Americans of all time were immigrants. Take the plunge. Move. Life's too short to live by someone else's leave.

kf: the folks who are telling you to move to the US are correct - if you look around you can find large metropolitan areas that are not that different from your own, and various other problems will be solved simply by being there (Dallas-Ft. Worth, various places in Virginia, and elsewhere). Once you become a permanent resident you can own firearms...unless your citizenship is that important to you, American citizenship (and residence in the right location) would be everything you wanted. It's NEVER easy to leave some place (I have several relatives whose wives are from foreign countries) but the reality is that if you value freedom, parts of the USA are your last best hope.
