My Model 10 slam fires

I picked up a old Model 10 for $80 the other day. I took it out to the ranch to test fire it, and to my supprise, I could empty the tube while holding the trigger down and working the action. Its not a stuck firing pin, it still works normal. I just thought only the M37 and winchester 93/97 guns did this. Anyone else have a model 10 that can chime in?

Very simple. As an Ithaca 37 collector, the solution is to just remove your finger from the trigger prior to pumping the shotgun.

Lots of shotguns have this feature. The Remington Model 10 was actually the predecessor of the Remington Model 17 which later became the Ithaca 37. In its time, 'slam-fire' was not considered a bad thing. BTW, if it slam-fires when you have your finger OFF the trigger, take it to a gunsmith.

So please, forgive the slight side track of the thread... But Badger Arms, you sound like someone who might know this.

The new Ithaca 37's don't slam fire (my old one does, the one I sold and the one stolen from my home did). I'd like to replace one, if I were to get a new one, is it a difficult mod to convert it back to the old configuration (slam fire)? Thanks!

Oh, I'm thrilled to have this feature. It was an unexpected joy. I ruined a perfectly good Mossy 500 trigger group trying to perform a "slam-fire conversion" about 5 years ago. :( I'm especially excited because the Model 10 just happens to be in the rare 18" riot config.:)

The weird part is that it wont slam-fire (slide-click, slide-click) when you dry fire it. It has to have the recoil (and no, im not letting up off the trigger inadvertantly). I dont know, maybe the disconnector is worn just enough to reset due to the recoil.

In response to T-bone, i was told you just remove the disconnector....... Who knows. Try it and see.

Bad idea... best leave it like it was designed to work, and learn to run it as is. If you want something that slamfires, find something that was originally designed to do it. There are plenty of Ithaca 37s/ Winchester Model 12s etc. available. Mucking around in a functioning fire control mechanism when you don't know what you're doing is bad juju.

Badger Arms-I'll be darned, look what the bush pilot brought in ! How in heck are you sir!

Missed you around here ..oh btw, WE now tell folks Older Used Guns - like 37s - are total junk and suggest new folks buy the new stuff with syn furniture, and curb-feelers...

I *know* why you collect 37s - less chance of these new folks getting a pc of Junk 37 if they are not on the used market

Same reason WE do our bit in regard to other firearms... ;)

Steve.
