Which of these .45s would you recommend for carry

I have always bought handguns based on my own needs and preferences, after my own research and experiences as well as (sometimes) gut-wrenching decision-maiking... :D

This time, though, I've narrowed this down to four pistols I'm interested in. I already own Sig SA/DAs in 9mm as well as two non-Sig 1911s, and I'm comfortable with both platforms.

I'm interested in your experiences with any of these pistols (especially about DAK) or if you know anything about them that can be good input to my making a decision.

I dunno about any of them, really... But, I'm a dwarf so a 4"-5" bbl and a standard grip length for concealed carry on me, is like you strapping a MP5 to your belt.

The "Carry" versions would be better, but I don't know if that slotted rail
would be catching on things.

Are you Entertaining other suggestions? like the Sig 245?

Well Fran (how are ya by the way - good to see you back on PT) I cannot speak from personal experience on any of these but personally if you are going to go to that size and weight for 8+1 you might as well at least lose some width and get the consistent 1911 style platform and sweet SA trigger and go with the Revolution carry. Since you have 1911s already this will be an easy manual of arms to adopt and, even though you are probably far better than I am with DA triggers (ain't hard!), just about everyone is going to be better with an SA than a DA.

The DAK is at least a consistent trigger pull (hate the crunchentickers myself) but you gain nothing in capacity, cost or features going that route compared to the Revolution IMO.

I'd go for the Revolution since it's on a 1911 platform. All should be great for carry, but I'm partial to all steel and 1911s. :)

I picked the SAS. No rought spot's to annoy you. And the nhil would grips are awesome!

Of the above guns i would get the carry version of the P220. The DAK trigger is suppose to be nice. Iam not a fan of DAO guns so I have not shot it.

That said if you are familiar and comfortable with the 1911 cock and locked platform why not a 1911. The 1911 is the finest .45 ACP setup ever made. If I had the money I would pick one of these up from Ron at Eagle Sports and tactical.

I had to vote for the SIG P220R; although I've carried a standard,
West German .45 caliber P220A for years and NEVER had a problem.

The Revolutions are NICE. I fired one of the stainless 5" ones, and...oh, man. Very snertly.

I hate rails, so I'd say none of the P220s you've listed. See about getting a non-railed classic P220; they're still out there NIB at reasonable prices. It's a true classic, and everyone should have one.

A word about the DAK trigger: try before you buy. I really don't care for it, and nor do several other shooters (and Sig fans) that I know. I'd LOVE to see the SAS in a traditional DA/SA.

One other thing on the Revolution: Ernhardt has hinted here (http://sigforum.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/430601935/m/734106575) that they'll be marketing it in other calibers. I drool at the thought of one in 9mm.

If you prefer SAO, Sig recently released an SAO P220, in both the regular and carry versions. Perhaps another thing to consider.

All Black - keep it formal if it's 'AFTER FIVE' you know. Black, dark, subdued hides well, nothing shiney or flashy. The .45 acp is always a good choice if you need to get someone off of you.:evil:

I'd go with the 220R. I've got a couple of older 220's without the rail and a 245, which is DAO. The DAO is OK, but its nice to have the option of SA if you want it. All of them shoot very well, so thats not really an issue.

Funny thing with the SIG's is, they really are not all that different in size when you compare them. Half inch here, quarter inch there, and thats about it. Even the full size 220 is only about as big as a Colt Commander, and very easy to carry concealed. I used to not like the rail models, but since going to a 226 and 229 with them, its not a bad thing. A good light on that rail on my bedside or a spare kitchen shelf gun is a nice feature and instantly available or even removed.

Even if you do decide to go with a non rail version, get your holsters made for the railed guns. Either will fit them, but the rails wont fit in most fitted non rail holsters. Sooner or later, you'll have one with a rail. SIG's are VERY addictive! :)
