I have long wanted for a 1911 that was a replica as close as possible to a 1944 GI. Yesterday I bought a Springfield Milspec
that is just right except for it having a stainless barrel and barrel bushing.
I called Springfield about it and they said I should be glad I "got one of the good ones". To me that shiney nose spoils the look. Springfield said the SS barrel is better and thicker so it would have better accuracy and longevity. They are willing to swap me for blued pieces.
Should I keep the stainless or go for originality in appearance? Will the stainless barrel really shoot better, enough to make giving in to the un-1944 look worth it?
