Need some help from the experts. Just bought a new 870P model#4903. I want to clean the shotgun before using, I have read the manual but still can't remove the barrel. I'm new to shotguns, the only one I used before buying the 870 was a single shot 16 gauge. Thanks in advance.

Unscrew Mag cap, rack slide, release barrel. Am I missing anything?

(my guess is you've tried to skip step 2)

Open the action, then unscrew the magazine screw cap, barrel should slide off (may have to wiggle back & forth a little since it is new)

Naw don't need to brother Dave he is a busy man. I got my old single shot back from repair had the stock repaired, firing pin replaced. It's good for another 30 years, :) I will just set this new fingled pump aside for now. Thanks again..

Hmm, new one on me. Try this.
First, make sure it's unloaded.
Unscrew the mag cap and remove. Then rack to rear and hold vertically by the grip.Over something soft like an old pillow, tap the butt with a rubber or rawhide mallet to loosen things up a bit. Then grip the barrel and slide it forward. If this doesn't do the trick, get it to a smith, something's wrong....

If so, the only modification to what's been posted is to only take forearm back Half-Way. Then unscrew / remove the mag tube cap & pull the barrel off.
For some reason (bizarre at best), the synthetic forearms can't be all the way or back (on most 'guns) but they will comply if at the mid point.
