I'm about to order a 1/70 twist Green Mountain barrel for my .50 Cal Lyman Trade Rifle. Do I need a 15/16 or 1 inch? Not even sure what these sizes refer to...

Any help appreciated.

The Green Mountain barrels are fine shooters, can't go wrong there. The figures; 15/16ths and 1" refer to the outside diameter of the barrel measured across the flats. The 1 in 70 refers to the rate of twist of the rifling, one complete revolution in 70". With this twist you will be restricted to a patched round ball as it will not stabilize a conical or sabot/bullet combination. Have fun!

Green Mountain barrels are nice, but I suggest you take it to a reputable smith before you experiment! You can not be to carefull with firearms. If it doesn't fit can you get your money back.

You really don`t have a choice on the 1 inch vs. the 15/16 ...like already said you need to measure across the flats on the muzzle end of your barrel .. and order the like ... which ever your stock is bedded for will fit , its not interchangable .. i ordered a greenmountain for my Thompson Hawken ..and i have the 1inch barrel .. the green mountain only comes in a 32 inch lenght and in the 1 inch ... its a tank barrel way too heavy for my likein so i cut 4 inches off it , and it still shoots like a tack driver at 100 yards ...
