Never saw one of these before, but my local dealer has a fairly used one for $150. It's all steel, and hefty though compact. Anyone own one of these? Is the metal good or soft?

Don't have the A-75 in .40SW but have a couple in 9 mm. Great little shooters, IMO. Have not have had a failure of any king as of yet (~10 yrs / 1,000 rounds, don't really shoot the shooting one much due to other guns in the collection). I like them.
Only non-functional problems I've has with the one I shoot is that the hard plastic pebbled grip (left side) cracked. Got replacement rubber ones from EAA about 5 years ago. Also, some surface rust did develop on the exterior of the barrel near the belled muzzle when I neglected the gun at one point. Otherwise, the metal seems to be holding up against wear very well. Its only shortcoming, as you noted, is its weight. The RAP line of guns from South Africa is nearly identical to the A-75 with the addition of a safety (that decocks) instead of just decocker. 9 mm mags and .40 SW mags are one in the same (at least for the Astra).

I had an A-75 in 9mm several years ago. It makes a nice compact carry piece. I wound up trading mine off when I decided I needed a Smith & Wesson Model 28 more than a compact 9mm. :)
