I just purchaced a decelerator pre fit rcoil pad for my 870 express wood stock. and was wondering a few things.
I was wondering what you all did to install your pad in the right spot and have it stay well. To me it seems that the original holes are just right and that drilling them a little bigger and installing it would be the correct thing to do. the directions say otherwise.
thanks for the info.

If you are enlarging the holes because the replacement screws are larger in diameter and the holes line up, then that will work just fine. If you are enlarging the holes because the new screws don't line up, then you need to plug the old holes and redrill new holes. The screws won't tighten otherwise.
Just don't drill the new holes too large for the screws.

Yes the first one I did I used the origional holes. There was a small gap at each end of the recoil pad. I then filled the origional holes, and drilled new holes IAW the directions. It fit perfectly.

I used oak dowel rod, and Elmer's wood glue.
I lightly glued the dowel, and then tapped it into the stock. After drying, I cut it off flush and then sanded it down.

This is what I do as well.
Most of the time though, I've had good luck with the pad lining up and being just slightly oversized so I can just screw it down and grind to fit.
